I have come to the ubderstanding that 308 win brass is the parent brass of the 243 if this is true then you should be able to form the brass from it correct? So how would you do this in the days of plentiful 30-06 brass I would reform it and use it in my trusty 270. All I did was run it through the FL Die and trim. Would this work or what would it take to reform 308 to 243.

Yes. It'll work just like the 30.06 did to 270. Only side effect being that the necks are going to be a little thick. With most factory chambers though, this isn't an issue.

At one time, I made 22/250 brass from 30/06 cases, and .243 from .308 brass. You need to do annealing, several forming steps, and ream the necks, but it can be done. Personally, it's way more work than it's worth.

Would recommend and intermediary sizer for sure rather than using a .243 die to neck all the way down from .308.

I've done it before, found it not particularly worth it also, but did have success using a 7mm-08 Remington die as an intermediate sizer before then hitting them with the .243 Winchester dies. Causes less damage/splitting to the brass. I do the same for necking up 30-06 to 338-06 A-Square - I use an 8mm neck expander as an intermediate and then use the 338 die to finish them.

If the fiddling (annealing and neck turning as need be) is a joy then it'll work fine, but I just buy .243 brass.
