Have any of you installed a Grind-To-Fit Limbsaver recoil pad? I'm thinking about putting one on my 6mm and am wondering if it is hard to do and what kind of finish I should expect. Is this a do it yourself thing, or should I take it to a smith to do? Any other grind to fit pads you would recommend over the Limbsaver? Thanks!!!

on a 6mm? seems to be a terrible waste o money, and throw off the very cool balance of the 6mm rifles out there.

that aside, if you take your time, i have seen a couple of these jobs, and yes they do make a diff in the felt recoil.

God has the strangest sense of humor. I am 6 feet 2 inches tall and 225 pounds solid with the worst case of recoil sensitivity I know of. LOL!!! I shot the 6mm the other day and it was just a little too much for me. I don't know why God made me this way, but luckily he gave me a way to reduce it.;)

I have used the Kick-eez, HiViz Xcoil, and the Limbsaver pads and will admit the Kick-eez is the easiest to grind to fit. I had more trouble with the Limbsaver and finally kept the sanding disk wet with soapy water so it wouldn't keep grabbing onto the pad.

When installed, all three pads work wonders, but I won't use a Limbsaver grind-to-fit pad again. The pre-fit pads are great though.

-06 Lover, I'd like to piggyback onto your post if I may. I'd love to hear any firsthand opinions on which of these products do a great job of soaking up recoil. Although I'm not especially recoil-shy, my Ruger M77 in .300 Win Mag is just plain painful.

I don't know if the rifle fits me wrong, if the buttpad has hardened with age, or what. But after the first shot, I get beaten so badly that I inevitably jerk or flinch the second and consecutive shots.

My shoulder and I would be grateful for any product recommendations!

Regards,

PG

PG,

Any of the 3 - Limbsaver, Kick-eez, or HiViz Xcoil - work very well. Since I use the 3 types on my rifles, I will recommend anyone of them. I'm not sure one is that much better than the other two as all three work so well.

www.limbsaver.com has a fitted pad for the M77 and www.hivizsights.com has a fitted pad for the post 2001 M77. Hope this helps.

Just an update - I picked up and installed a Limbsaver on my .300 Mag yesterday. It made a tremendous difference, and I thank you all for your recommendations.

I used a Limbsaver grind to fit for my Savage model 10FP, so far I've given up on the sort of finished look that the original cast in place concrete pad had and taken solace in the immense improvement that the new pad represents. I have my pad ground to about 1/16" short of flush all the way around the pad so that someday I'll send it to a smith for a proper fitting. I found the "precision fit" nomenclature only applies to the exact rifle and stock material listed. The wood stocks for no real reason are not the same as the plastic stocks in terms of pad dimensions, go figure.

I have installed a dozen or more Pachmeyier De-cellerator grind to fit recoil pads. I think this project is well within most peoples ability to do. Just follow the directions carefully. They really do make a big difference in felt recoil.
