I'm wanting to install a recoil pad on my Marlin 336W, either a Limbsaver, Decelerator, or Kick-Eez. This pad is not primarily for recoil reduction but for added stock length and a better feel. From what I've read these pads sometimes require some work to get a proper fit and I'm asking advice from any of you Marlin shooters out there as to what kind of experiences you've had getting a good fit with any of these three pads. BTW, I'm not interested in the slip-on option. Thanks.

I installed a Limbsaver on my 336W.

Looks good, works great, not much effort was required. There was a tiny bit of bare wood showing after the install so I removed it and hit the back of the stock with dark stain.

I will post pics after work today if your still interested.

Let me know and I'll follow up.

N4Z,
I saw your pictures on another thread and it does look good. I have a Limbsaver on my 870 and it works well but I'm a little concerned about its durability and I haven't had it on long enough to really know. How has yours held up? Thanks.

Right on.

To answer your question it has held up very well. Looks just as it did the day I bought it. Adds a good inch to overall weapon length too.

336 is a daisy for hunting, and one of my favorite plinkers.

I recently swapped out the factory camo sling for something made of leather and a bit nicer. Needed a decent sling as I prefer to practice sans rest, and the one that came with the rifle wasn't cutting it.

Anyway, good luck with yours! ;)

Okay, I have another question. I bought a Limbsaver but it turned out not to be a very good fit for my gun, although I think I could make it work. But now I'm considering the Pachmayr and what I want to know is this: According to the mounting instruction on their website you're supposed to use plastic anchors instead of screwing directly into the wood. Is there any real reason for this? I don't mind drilling an additional hole (or two) but I don't really want to maul my stock because I might want to re-install the original buttplate someday. Any advice from someone who has installed a Decelerator on their 336 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
