I had a 3913 that sat in my safe for months. I even tried to sell it(no takers, so I kept it). Today I took it to the range just for fun and to burn some extra 9mm I had hanging around. I don't know what I was thinking before but this pistol is great, and is now my favorite. Has anyone rediscovered a dust collector? has it became yur favorite?

Greeting's Carbine Kid My Friend-

Well, not exactly a "dust collector" but after entering the law enforcement
field back in the late 70's, the 1911 fell from grace a bit with me. With the
advent of "spray and pray" wonder nines, I no longer had a use for JMB's
1911. Then the standard capacity SIG's and Glock's came along; thus
pushing the 1911 further back in time. But, after my retirement in 1997
I find that I have rediscovered my interest in "the grand old man". And
I must say its been a very pleasant experience thus far~!:D

Kid - well hardly rediscovered but - my P12.45 had been for a long time unreliable - but stoopid me had not properly checked it out - it gathered dust!!!

On proper evaluation I found a badly chipped extractor claw. Fitted a new extractor (Wilson) and gun now runs like a watch. Trouble is, it is soon to go - as am trading it for a SIG 228!

I have other 1911 platforms tho so all is not lost - in fact Sistema is another dust gatherer that enjoyably gets rediscovered from time to time :)

In past year I been rediscovering S&W rev. I mean the older blue and wood ones. I had forgot how much fun to shoot and how accurate they can be.

Hi there,

+1 on Smith & Wesson revolvers.

I was on the 1911 kick for many years and the Glock kick, and the next whatever auto-loader is new in the market.

I forgot the joy of shooting the wheelgun!

Chris

Yeah, I've been on the 1911 kick now for awhile and about forgot about my Smith Mod-15 till the other day I got it out and fired a few. Dang thing made me look like I knew how to shoot so its renewed my interest. Gotta get the reloader fired up to make some 38's now.

Recently rediscovered SIG.

I am a 1911/hipower guy, with wheelguns in there and Makarovs. My very first auto was a Sig P220. I always thought their barrel axis was too high, giving me a parralax problem with reaction shooting. A problem that went away with the hipower.
So, the other day I bought a Police trade-in P226. I'm in love all over again. The gun is lighter than my 1911s/hipowers, and I can't make it jam. I've tried. It's accurate, and easy to teach my wife to shoot with. (not a serious shooter, and hates having to decide between safety and slide release.)
I will probably not carry this much, as it is much thicker than the HP, but I love it!
Steve

I have one that hasn't been rediscovered yet as far as I know.

I became frustrated with a Charter Arms AR-7 .22 caliber rifle and chucked it way into the back of my parents attic.
It fell into the blown in insulation and as far as I know it is still there.

My folks both passed away over ten years ago, the house was sold, so,,,,,

My 686 was on hiatus for over a year - never had any thoughts of getting rid of it. But I was just shooting a lot of rimfire. Now I can't head to the range without the 686!

I am another one that was on a 1911 kick for many years.. Still my carry gun, but recently I drug out the S&W magnums and had a pleasant reunion.

Another vote for revolvers. Learned to shoot on wheelguns and then got into autos. Rediscovered the joys of shooting wheelies a couple of years ago.

Two actually.

My first two pistols, a Ruger Black Hawk in .357 and an Enhanced Colt Commander. Got both in 1992. The Black Hawk was just a bit mundane. The Colt I just never warmed to. They sat for a long time between trips to the range.

Finally, I got a wild hair and sent both out for work. The Colt went to Tripp for a fair chunk of work and a hard chrome finish. Now it's my favorite 1911 by far. What a difference a fact lift and tune up can make.

The Ruger is off at David Clements being converted into .44spl. After I picked up a S&W M24 this summer, the .44spl bug bit hard. The Ruger seemed just the ticket.

I've been shooting pretty much only autos for the past several years, and the .357 revolvers get taken out every once in a while.

Last month I was trying to pick something for a new shooter to learn on, and way in the back of the safe I pulled out my Ruger single six .22. Hadn't shot it in about 8 years. It will be making many more trips to the range now . . .really fun gun to shoot.

I'm another 1911 guy. Always will be. But... I'm kind of rediscovering my favorite revolver, the SAA.

Slower pace... relaxing. And what a joy not to have to chase the brass! If the 1911 is the Platonic Perfect Idea of the Autoloader, so the SAA is the Perfect Idea of the Revolver. :)

And just like 1911's... if you don't have one, you really should... ;)

My 357 revolvers suffered a hiatus in interest. Been shooting them more of late. I infact am rediscovering the 38spl round as well which goes hand in hand with the 357. Enjoy shooting them without all of the recoil of larger handguns. But, the 41 mag is still my favorite big bore revolver.

Add me to the list of those who rediscovered revolvers in general. In the 80's I had to have a high-cap 9mm. When I got my carry permit I actually bought a steel 640 .357. (I still think it's a damn near perfect ccw) I eventually "moved up" to an auto for carry, then discovered 1911's and got a compact 1911 for carry. I can't recall when or what got me first "re-interested" in revo's, (other than a few pix from DHart) but I am actually more into them now than I ever was. I wish I still had the 640. I don't miss the "wondernine" and am still planning on getting rid of everything except my 1911's, and my "J's" and "K's". If I had to lose all but one in my collection (God forbid!) I'd keep my 3" M65. (DHart; you actually are directly responsible for that one...THANK YOU!) The 640 will always be the one I got rid of that I wish I could have back.

It's funny, most threads for newbies suggest revos as starters. I think they actually want autos because they're 'cooler'. I'll bet there are a ton of people out there who gained an appreciation for wheelies after a long time considering them too old school. (I'm one of 'em:p )

Buckmark

I've tripled the size of my handgun collection and this is a gun that I've bought twice. I've had this one longer than any other handgun in my collection. I end up bringing it to the range and it gets shot by my friends more than by me. They all rave about it but I seldom reach for it first. Perhaps it's my new focus on CCW and .44 bores that led me astray. That Buckmark is a loyal arm reliable and true.

And, if you ever decide to sell it, don't forget that I have rights of first refusal. Me. Not Team Discovery Channel. :neener:
