I can't find any powders for loading .223, such as H335 or Tac ( 2 powders that I have previously used).i do have an 8 pound jug of IMR4064 that o use for the 7.5Swiss cartridge. Sierra list a few loads for IMR4064 for .223 with 55 grain projectiles, but I am concerned about gas port reassure in an AR15'. Does anyone have experience with this combination in an AR15? Thanks in advance for your help!

IMR-4064 is a little slow for light bullets.

As such, it will not give top velocity with lighter 36-63 grain bullets because the .223 doesn't have enough case capacity.

It should perform admirably with 69 grain & heavier bullets.

But it will work with any of then if that's what you have.

Look on Hodgdon's website for perfectly safe load data.

but I am concerned about gas port reassure in an AR15'.
Gas port pressure is pretty much a non-issue in the AR-15 DI gas system.

It will either work?
Or it won't?
But it won't really hurt anything if it doesn't.

Thanks, RC. I know it isn't the best solution, but if the supply of my preferred powders continues o be unobtainable, I may ave to give 4064 a try. I doubt that the paper targets at the range can tell the difference!

I doubt you can tell much difference either.

Except stick powder don't go down .223 case mouths as easy as ball powder.

I use 24.0 grains of IMR 4064, with the 55gr JHP and HP bullets, and they work great for me.

If you decide to try something else, I would be interested in the 4064 if it needs to go.

Good Luck

Thanks, Dgod. I'm sorry, but I need the 4064 for my larger calibers, but I will load up a few with your recipe and give them a try.thanks again!
