After reading the responses to, "are you like me?" I thought what a great group to meet. I was wondering if there was ever a thought to organize a "First annual meet, greet and shooting competition of the Black Powder High Roaders." If there is an interest, I'd be glad to help with the cannon portion. [and the eating of the steak, sea food, Mexican, Italian...]

We have done this in various regions of the country over at the taurusarmed.net board. I went to the meet in Texas and had great fun. :D This board doesn't seem nearly as friendly, though, or at least is more contentious. I think, of all the forums on this board, though, the BP and the Hunting forums, in that order, are the least contentious.

Part of the problem is the scattered nature of posters
Here in the NE we could probably list 100 members within 150 miles of Baltimore. Getting a meeting and a dozen to show up may be another thing.

I actually suggested something like this several months ago centered around a reenactment of the competions held by the Texas Rangers in 1847 and 1848 between the Walker Colt and 1841 Mississippi rifle, but other events could be included. I can't find the thread now for some reason. The general consensus was that it could be held down here at a range in the Texas hill country near Fredricksburg, nearby the famous Battle of Walkers Creek and Jack Hay's reported stand against the Comanche atop Enchanted Rock with his single shot rifle and his two Patersons. The ladies could hit the shopping spots downtown while the fellers could have fun during the day. Later the fellers and their ladies might enjoy sttending the Luchenbach Dance Hall Saturday night. Perhaps we could even get some sponsorship from Pietta, Uberti, Texas Jacks/Cimmaron, etc. It would be best done in the early spring or late fall when the temperature is more comfortable.
We could have a tented vendors area, etc.
If we put the word out, there MIGHT interest from the folks in the Colt Forum percussion revolver forum, the 1858 forum, as well as the many Southwestern-based CAS folks, to get the attendance numbers up. What think yee?

Dave and I are lucky if we get one trip a year. If there was a "meet and greet" ten miles away I doubt I could spare the time at any one moment.

I'ts not a bad idea, but the events such as that which I have attended have been centered around an actual, larger event, with our agreeing to met at that event (which we were attending anyway) at a specific time and location within the event.

Well if any of you would like to get organized to create something, I'll help. Or if there is a current event being held that we could add our number to, I'll go! I tried to organize a hog hunt in Texas with my old - we are all in our 50's - college buddies and it turned out much harder than I thought. We all get busy.

I have been trying to get a black powder pistol competition into serious planning and organization for a couple years now. Unfortunately, there simply are not enough people in the area that are interested. I had hoped to provide some fun for all black powder pistols including the in-lines. Maybe include a 100 yd bench rest pistol match to see which really is the most accurate.

A majority of the muzzle loader fans around here don't even own a black powder pistol.

I had thought of listing it on various forums as a forum meet & greet as well.

If any one in or around PA, MD, DE, VA is interested let me know.

You live in a beautiful area of the country with amazing history. My Wife and I would make the time. My biggest problem would probably be how to ship a cannon. Keep me informed.
