So I’ve seen some posts hating on the 300 BLK recently. I don’t shoot or hunt near as much as many on this site, but the AR and the RAR in 300 are currently serving me well. I hunt VA whitetails in close quarters for the most part and the Barnes round definitely does the trick.

Easy on my shoulder. Easy on my reloading supplies. And it rings a gong at 300 yards for me.

What is this hate you speak of? And from whom?

I made a slight "mistake" when I built my first AR from scratch....got a carbine gas barrel 300 BO. Built it anyway since I was not worried about a can.

BEST decision I made...from 110 to 150 this AR is THE bee's knees and feeds, of all things, 110 gr RN carbine bullets and will kick the gong at 300.

Oh yeah.

Put me down as a fan. Most of the complainers are old fudds that have never had one so I don't pay them any mind. Funny the only people I've ever seen claiming that people say its the greatest thing ever are the people using that as a reason to complain about it. Same goes for 6.5 creedmoor. Show me on the doll where the new fangled cartridge hurt you.

I dont hate 300blk, but I do like 7.62x39 better as the factory ammo is usually cheaper, even with brass x39 ammo. But 7.62x39 in an AR can be tricky sometimes... But if you reload, they cost about the same. The only thing 300blk has over x39 is much better support for subsonic loadings, as x39 subsonic loadings are very hard to find reputable data for.

I’ve owned a .300 Whisper (same thing) Contender barrel for over 25 years. It is a great caliber for targets and smaller medium game. I have used it for IHMSA silhouette competition, general range days, small varmints and deer. Strangely my favorite deer load is a 220-grain Sierra round nosed bullet at around 1100 fps. It is just stable in my 1:10” barrel and only loses ~60 fps over the first 100 yards. It kills better than lighter bullets because it tumbles, producing massive wounds. It’s also relatively quiet (no suppressor) and very low recoil. It may not feed well in ARs, I don’t know, but in other platforms it’s a great option for short range hunting. No hatin’ here.

Anything it can do, 223 can do better…223 can do anything better than IT!

Just kidding. Well, not really for me anyway. It’s fine if that’s what you want. It’s nothing special.

No hate here. The most cast bullets (my own) I've shot at one time was 150 rounds with zero leading and no jams in my AR. Lyman has load data for cast. At first, I've formed my own brass but now buy due to laziness. So its a good recreational/practice round for me. Nice to see game taken with it.

Not a hater. It just doesn't do anything for me that other cartridges don't.

if I want to hunt deer with an ar, I'll get a 6.5 grendel and utilize the better bc, penetration, and longer range. A 6.5 can't accidentally be chambered in a .223 ar and blow the gun up.

if I want a subsonic gun that shoots 220+ grain bullets, I'll get some flavor of .45acp carbine and enjoy a better selection of bullets that perform well at subsonic velocities. A .45acp can't chamber in a .223 ar and blow the gun up.

As was said, it's nothing special and has too many limitations for me, namely range and effective subsonic bullet options. I don't need a cartridge or gun that's simply mediocre at multiple things

Im glad you enjoy yours.

I have a few, and I like them even with their limitations. Fun to reload for, and awesome in ar pistols and handy little carbines. Also really nice to shoot cast bullets from. But a 30-06 they ain't, just a fun toy and a good little cartridge for close up deer or small game hunting.

I don’t hate it. But I don’t have a silencer so I don’t need a subsonic rifle cartridge. I have 3 5.56 rifles and 2 7.62x39 rifles. I don’t have a need for a cartridge that could be mistakenly loaded and blow up something else. The only other rifle I want is a ruger American that’s mag compatible with my mini-30. I have a 375 Winchester and a 45-70. I don’t need another rifle. I do have an inbuilt lower. But I’m going to leave it that way for now. I’m trying to prioritize getting loading my own ammo before I buy anymore guns. I want to enjoy shooting what have.

I toyed with getting a RAR version for cast loads in a scoped rifle. Having found good cast loads for my 30-30 I have no use for it, unless it could get better accuracy. I also toyed with getting an AR version and building a dedicated sbr with a suppressor. That’s a while off if ever. I’m not fond of barrels under about 14” due to noise but a 2 stamp rifle is a very expensive solution.

You could just get a 10.5 barrel and silver solder a suppressor on it and call it a day. One stamp gun at that point.

Does that count? Doesn’t it have to be pinned and welded?
I think you can do either/or IIRC...
Cause with a P/W it is permanently attached whereas with silver solder it's considered permanent as far as the ATF is concerned but you can still take it off with a modest amount of work if you decide you want a better suppressor or whatever.

Yes, and YES! Music to my ears partner! Getting into reloading is about the smartest thing an enthusiast can do. You ask any reloader, they’ll tell you the only thing wrong with it is they didn’t start sooner!

That is intriguing. I had assumed you want the suppressor to be removable for cleaning and such. Makes that Mares Leg 12” barrel 45 Colt lever gun more appealing too. BRB. I have research to do.

Yeah I think I might run that buy an actual gun law expert first to be safe but I'm pretty sure if you cant just take it off with a 3/4 wrench and some effort, you're probably OK lol.
