Have never sold/shipped ammo: how does UPS work?

Have a possible tentative deal, it appears, to sell/ship 7.62x54R, about 680 rounds.

As I've only bought ammo etc, have read that some UPS stores (or regional warehouses?) don't understand their own policies, even with the "ORM-D" label on boxes.

We live northeast of Memphis and there is some sort of a sorting/storage facility north of Hwy 64, east of Wolfchase Mall.

Thanks very much for any current procedures.

I bought a butt load of that Romanian 8mm when is was really really cheap, about $30 a tin and sold about 10 tins on Gunbroker when the price went over $100......all was shipped via UPS and cost varied from about $20 to about $35. The only thing special I had to do was print out the ORM-D labels and put them on the box, that was it. When I filled out the paperwork at the drop center I always labeled the contents as "cartridges, small arms". The first couple of times the lady at the counter ask me if there were firearms in there and after I explained she was fine.....never had any problems.

You can call them for a pickup

I shipped a bunch of ammo this past summer through UPS. The above poster is correct--your label (I made them on my computer) needs to say "ORM-D" and "Cartridges, Small Arms" inside a black box. Affix it to the front of the package and you're good to go.

I went onto ups.com, printed shipping labels and scheduled a pickup online. They showed up at the time I asked and took the boxes no problemo.

The other option is driving to a UPS shipping center. Don't make the mistake I did by going to a UPS store in a strip mall. They won't take ammo there. You have to go to a shipping center. For me, the closest one was 45 minutes away, so that's why I paid the extra $5 or $6 for the pickup at my house.

Good luck.

You don't need a label, you can just print ORM-D right on the box.

As far as "ammunition, small arms", when I received my ammo from the CMP, they labeled it "consumer commodity".

If it's good enough for the gov't., it's good enough for me.

The proper shipping name is Cartridges, Small Arms. Consumer Commodity is an inproper marking.

I communicated with Orest Michaels at CMP about this and he stated that an employee ordered the wrong marking labels and that it should be corrected now.

Thanks very much.

The box still needs to display "Cartridges, small arms".

Therefore, can I simply 'cut out' the cardboard section from a "Wolf Ammo" box with this phrase, and carefully tape it onto my box, right by the blue "ORM-D" label?

If you have any trouble at the customer counter, call the UPS 1-800 number (it's on the wall there somewhere). They will verify that you are good to go with the proper marking and ammo under 50 cal. They will also verify that you do not need an FFL or a special hazmat license.

Best to call them right there with your cell phone, on speaker so the counter person can hear both sides of the conversation. I had to do that once. Did the trick (then the supposed "security expert" - her words not mine - said "I'll let it go this time." I suppose she had to try to save face in front of everyone there hearing all this.)
