Have you ever been shot at for no good reason?

Yep...Been shot at 4 times...First three I saw coming...All happened when my family owned a small motel business...Drugs and scum all around...The last one, back in October 2003, never saw it...I believe it was a carload of gang members going thru initiation...It hit my windshield dead smack at head level...Only thing that saved me was it was shot at an angle and must have glanced off...Put a hole in the windshield and glass all in my face but never found the bullet...Hauled ass as I didn't know who shot it or otherwise I would have shot back...I'm gettin tired of this BS...

Nope. Nobody ever pulled the trigger. I've had guns pointed at me on several occassions, including one where I was pinned to the sidewalked with a knee to my neck and a shotgun to my head (my only crime was "open carry," which is legal in MT). Not fun.

If I have a gun on me though, I am returning fire. So if you shoot at me, don't miss.

One Time

My High School friend and I were hanging out on the High school buses at night. Bored teenagers we were... It was "hazier times" for me. Anyhow, I was wondering at the time, why I thought I heard glass cracking going on. A couple of days later I read the newspaper and there was a big article about the buses windows getting shot out by someone with a .22

Man, you must be a swell guy if people are shooting at you alot for "no reason". :) Seriously though...most every time I have been shot at was for good reason. The other guy felt I was wearing the wrong uniform. There are a couple of times where I was shot "towards" but not really "at" by farmers or property owners as a child and I did shoot myself in the foot for no good reason once.

Forgot a 4th Time.. In '85

Brother in law and I were rafting down the Guadalupe River. Someone starting shooting at us from the high cliffs on either side. Consistently hitting the water about 20 feet in front of the raft.

1st time was having my dad's decoys shot at (and right over our heads) when I was a kid....dad returned fire and we split.

2nd time was in the old 'Combat Zone' in Boston. 4th of July and some punks were trying to sell me and my buddy, with our girlfriends, fireworks..then pot...then any drugs that they had. We shrug them off and keep walking, when they start in on the girlfriends. Well my buddy Jimmy has a temper and lights a 1/4 stick with his cigarette and chucks it at them. KA-BOOM!! And we start running, then we hear 'pop-pop-pop-pop.'
Nobody hit, but needles to say I don't hang out with Jimmy anymore.
3rd time was a joke that almost got ugly. At deer camp (I'm a non-resident, as are my companions) me and my cousin have our bucks hanging. Happy as pigs in alot of beer. A car drives by the camp, slows down, and pop-pop-pop. Well I just got out of the Army (still on terminal leave) and ran to the gun rack, grabbed a friends M1 carbine, locked and loaded a 10 rd. magazine, burst throught the front door aimed and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. Shuck that round out and aim above the car as it speeds away and let three fly. Turns out it was a good friend with his buddy screwing with us. He was driving and his buddy was shooting in the air, not at us (it was late at night), and drunk as 10 skunks.
I showed him the dented primer on the bullet that didn't go off (boy-o-boy did he crap after that) and still have it to remind myself to be cool headed and not reactionary when it comes to business.
Could have been very ugly. Thank heavens for cheap ammo.

I and a large number of kids were walking back to my aunts from my Mom's house. Someone shot a shotgun in out direction then came and harassed us in a truck.

Amazingly he couldn't keep a dog or car alive long.

I was walking to the store one night to get something to drink, some candy to bring my blood sugar up, and a pack of cigarettes. A neighbor (also a good friend) accompanied me to pick up a case of beer for the football party he was attending. For some reason I decided to walk instead of driving. It's only 5 blocks away. On the return trip maybe 20 feet onto the street, some punk kid started yelling give him a beer. My friend replied that the beer was not his to give away. The kid then proceded to yell "???? you ???????"(pardon the language but it is a direct quote) and I heard a small caliber handgun fired and the round whizz right past my right ear within inches. My friend started to run. I drop to the ground, looking for cover(none of course) and began to draw my own pistol. Problem is my gun got caught on my clothes(sold that gun shortly after), but as I looked back up the kid was lining his sites up on me and he was doing a damn good job. Then he noticed the gleam from my nickel plated handgun I was drawing. At that point him and his sidekick decided it was time to leave in a VERY big hurry, down the side street they were at. Hopefully thats the last time he decides to take a pot shot at someone on the street or anywhere else. I pray it was a lesson to him that people really do carry legally concealed firearms, and WILL shoot him. I did not return fire, because one he was in retreat and in my mind the danger to my life was over. Also because he had gained distance on me, and there was too great a risk of me missing and shooting into apartment buildings. I called the police, they responded(after they got done breaking up a huge bar brawl) they patrolled the nieghborhood. I notified them I had drawn and that I had a license to carry and I always carried. The officer just said ok, kind of glanced at my side to see if he could tell I was carrying. I told him yeah I've got it on me, on my right hip. His only response was, well you said you had a license so I don't really care, I'm not worried about you, just that other guy. They never caught him however.

Does this count as a no good reason shooting? To me the only good reason to shoot is to save a life.

of course

I left out the time my brother shot me when we were kids. He had his friends .25 cal that he was told was unloaded... That was a near life ending experience. :uhoh:

Don't know if we got shot AT or not, but the bullet went by WAY too close.

Buddy and I were fishing the Mattiponi River one day, and I heard something go buy Buzzzzzzzzzzz. About head level. Then again Buzzzzzzzz. I looked at him and asked "Did you hear that?" He had. Never heard a shot. We yelled up at the bank "HEY YOU MORON! We're fishing down here." Never heard anything more. Now. I had thought I heard the noise to my left. He thought he heard it to his right. Which seems to indicate to me that they passed right between us. :what: Too close on an 18 foot bass boat.

I agree with Biker; my Dad taught me "If you're pointing a gun at me, you're WRONG!" Ironically, he hit me with some ricocheting shotgun pellets once when he shot into a mulberry bush that the hen woody I'd dropped hid in....first time I ever swore at him and idin't get the crap beat out of me.... (I was 14 or 15)

I have withheld fire several times when legally entitled to fire-but will not hesitate when it is imperative.

"...And I'm tellin' you son, that it ain't no fun, lookin' straight down a .44.
Well he turned and screamed at Linda Lou, that's the break I was lookin' for,
You could hear me screamin' a mile away as I was headn' out for that door.

I said gimme three steps, gimme three steps Mister
Gimme three steps, towards the door,
Gimme three steps, gimme three steps Mister and you'll never see me no more."

Gimme Three Steps

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Yes on a couple of occasions. First was in Desert Storm. I understood why they were firing but still was not happy about it. Second I was pheasant hunting and a rooster came up between me and another hunter. I was uphill from him and looked at the rooster just in time to see him aiming at it and I was in the direct line of fire and had just enough time to turn my back. Got peppered pretty good. Went through my hunting cloths and broke skin but nothing really bad. Still have a few pieces of shot in me but Dad pulled most of them out of my back and butt.

For some reason the guy was shocked when I peppered him from the knees down after he shot me. He was going to call the cops for me shooting him until I showed him what he had done to me he decided it would be best to just leave it be. You wanna talk about being pissed off, he is lucky I thought about it enough to just hit him from knees down.

lets see, once while splitting wood, dived behind a tree. That happenned twice. Once when I was 6 playing in my parents yard had to do a quick run as someone started to shoot at me. Once when just sitting in the living room someone shot the window out. Plus theres another time someone shot a sheep standing next to me, might have been aiming at me for all I know. Cornered the nut then decided to let him excape considering I couldn't trust the legal system not to throw me in jail if I shot him. I don't think he was going to give up willingly.

Nope. I've never been shot at for no bad reason, either. I had some number four shot rain down on me during goose hunting once, but that was just the blowback from some pellets that didn't penetrate the goose about 30 feet over my head.

Nope, but my Brother has...

Me, my Brother and a friend (Chris) were driving to a junk yard in a pretty bad part of town. I was about 15 and ridding in the back seat. My Brother was driving and Chris was in the passenger seat. We decided to bring along a little .22 derringer (only gun we had at the time) for protection. The gun was in the glove box and for some stupid reason was open with a round in the chamber. Chris wanted to check it out, so he took it out of the glove box and closed it. Not sure exactly what happened next, but he must've closed it too hard, because the gun went off. All I heard was a little pop and then saw blood splattering on the head liner and onto my shirt and face.

Apparently when Chris closed the side swing breach on the derringer, the bullet went off. The bullet went through his left hand and into my Brother's right calf. According to my Brother, it felt like a bee sting. By the time we drove to the hospital my Brother's calf was cramping up pretty bad. He kept the bullet in for about two weeks, but it was too close to a nerve, so he had it surgically removed. Chris just had a few stitches in his hand and had no permanent damage.

Luckily we're all doing fine today, and much wiser about gun safety.

Me and my brother got shot with rock salt stealing watermelons from Old Man Wilsey's patch when we were kids. Hit in the back of the legs I was. Never dropped that melon though!! We are much older and wiser now, but still laugh about that one.:)

Like others here, there were a few times when they thought they were justified, usually for things like clothing, language and country of origin. Who knows, they may have had a point.

For no good reason? A few times, usually while hunting. I usually fire a warning shot, there is no rule on how far you have to miss for it to be a "warning shot", and if it happens again I will fire for effect. No one has yet to take the second shot.

A friend of mine, ex marine sniper, was elk hunting. He watched a truck going up a logging road a couple hundred yards away. The truck stopped and a guy got out and started using his scope as binoculars.

My friend was pretty concealed but was wearing a lot of orange when he saw the guy point his gun at him and fire. The guy missed.

When my friend got back to town the whole place was abuzz about somebody shooting at hunters. Seems this guy had to have a tow truck come pull his truck back to town, because somebody had shot it in the engine.

My friend looked at the deputy who was telling this story, they were old friends, and asked if anyone had asked the driver why there were 6 holes inside a 2" circle in his fender. The deputy gave him a funny look, shook his head and left.

My reaction was, "6 holes, you had to reload", my friends answer was "yep".

First and only time..

Mind you, this is after doing one tour in the gulf, and sending some downrange without recieving any.

New Orleans, 5 days after the storm.

Hovering over and apartment bldg about 1-2 miles southeast of the super dome.

Just finished hoisting up the SAR crewman, heard a tap-tap-tap. "*** was that". Hoist operator replied "I think they are shooting at us LT". Got out of there PRONTO.

Local decided to make himself a warlord. I believe it was the 82nd Airborne that paid him a visit later that day. Probably did not see that on the news.

3 rounds, 30 cal thru the tail. Luckily, no hydraulics or tail drive parts were hit.

Not sure what it was.

Driving north on I-5 about 1988 or 89, north of Seattle going to Everett. Doing about 60mph when I heard a loud "bang". Thought it was an engine problem at first but no vibration and instruments all looked good. Started looking around when I saw my rear window in the rear-view mirror. Cracks all over and a jagged hole about 1-2" across near the middle. As I watched the whole window began to disintegrate and fall out. Stopped and checked for other damage but could not find any nor did I find any foreign objects or any sort of projectile inside the car.

No reports of highway snipers or other odd occurences. The window repair dealer could not find any evidence of a problem with the window. Maybe aliens.

About 10 years ago, I was surveying a wooded 10 acre tract, when 8-10 shots hit the trees over our heads.

I learned I can run like a duck!!

Had a phone in the truck, called 911 and waited with the cheap .38 snubbie I carried for dogs and snakes.

Turned out to be a 16 year old kid who lived on the adjoining lot, skipping school and must have thought he was defending the homestead or something.

After talking to the deputies and the kids father I didn't press charges...he already had a couple to face anyway.

5 times

Once while canoeing on a creek - I guess the property owner felt we were tresspassing. We understood the message and paddled away.

Four times while wearing a blue uniform - never hit - everytime took someone to jail with nothing more than a scratch on them. I'm proud of that - never dealt street justice.
