Have you ever bought a gun... one that you wanted badly for a long time... and it was so expensive that you actually broke out in a cold sweat as you wrote the check? I always feel a tad guilty when I buy something because I certainly don't need any more guns. But this purchase actually made me light-headed. I think that I almost had a panic attack when I finally decided (after sitting here and thinking about it for over an hour) to buy it.

And get this: I haven't even seen a photo of it. I bought it based on the word and description of the seller (who is well known and highly respected, but still!). Then again, he took my check so maybe he's the crazy one?

BTW- It is a revolver so this is the correct forum. It is also my "Holy Grail," the gun I have wanted for the past 30 years or so but couldn't find and couldn't afford when I did. I finally found one at a price I was willing to pay. I will post pics when it arrives (assuming I don't stroke out from the anxiety while waiting).

Anyone want to guess?

Hmmmm - I'll throw in a guess for now as a tasty, minty - S&W M29 of some early vintage - maybe a creamy M27. :)

I know your feelings tho - heck - I have bought several times knowing full well that the only word applicable is ''want''. ''Need'' did not enter into it! :p

A Korth?

Not an SAA although that's a logical quess. I didn't pay as much as an early SAA would bring (that WOULD me to have a heart attack).

P95Carry is the closest so far. It is a tasty classic revolver and it is DA.

Not a revolver I know but I've always drooled over the M14(semi auto military like rifle) copies Ill see every now and then and they want easly over a grand for a cheap one but still I see one in the future.

Lots of interesting guesses. It's a S&W but not one of those mentioned, so far.

I mentioned that the dealer had two of them, well, I emailed him about buying the other one. I guess I recovered from temporary insanity and have now slipped into full-blown nuts.

I'll confess to what it is after a couple more guesses.

1955 Target?

Model 16 (K32 Masterpiece)?

M18 (K22 Combat Masterpiece)?

38/44?

M43 Airweight kit gun?

Warmer or colder?

You bought this???

Yup, I've done that myself. Put my mind to buying one and simply saved a little each check until I had the cash ($1000+) Found one and just did the deal. Hesitate and your lost. Never hit me until I was 1/2 way back to my vehicle. No regrets.

Oh, my guess...would've been a orig S&W Schofiled but, DA huh? Hmmm....

What I found was something that I have wanted ever since reading the work of Skeeter Skelton back in tghe early 1970s. One of his favorite revolvers was a 5" 1950 Target Model in .44 Special. Well, this barrel length is pretty rare and I only found a couple over the years and the prices stopped me cold. This time, however, even though the price was substantial, I said the Hell with it and bought it. I really wasn't looking for a collector grade gun but this dealer only deals in good stuff and he calls it 97-98% original blue. Plus, it was made in 1955 just like me.

Like I said, after thinking about the other one (he had two and I bought the slightly less expensive of the pair) I decided not to split up the set and emailed about buying it, as well.

You only live once and it's only money.

When I bought my Registered Magnum it was no big deal. I had spent more for my Custom Les Baer 10mm then that. Even the 210-5 was more then the Registered.

The one that got me was the 44 Automag. It costs a heck of a lot for an unfired new in the box one and it was about 6 months of disposable cash. I sweated that one a lot and regretted it several times after I bought it.

Now 20 years later, it is still unfired, still just sits there and I look at it. I don't get lightheaded about it, and at times I still regret it. I wanted to shoot it and now after all those years it still sits unfired.....

that guy:

There is a saying among high-end Smith & Wesson buyers ...

"If you paid too much don't worry, it won't be long before the value catches up, and thereafter it will keep going up."

I don't know (or care) about what you paid, but in the end this is something that will go in your favor. Over time, you can't loose. :D
