Have You Forgone a Gun Item for a Non-Gun Toy?

Well, I'm kinda between a gun, a much-needed computer upgrade, an airsoft gun, or tripping out my paintball gun. it's so hard to decide.:(

Well, I am slowing purchases of guns (at least expensive stuff) so that I can buy a large plot of Utah desert and build my wife's dream home and my dream bunker and vault (for the guns, of course). I do not currently have enough acreage to set up the 800 yard range I want.

I was about to say no, but the rock on my wife's finger definately set me back a few guns.

Oh yeah, that whole house in California thing, too.

Oh yeah, it cost us like $6K to move ourselves to Texas. That's a few guns, for sure.

Then there's the house in Texas.

The bulletproof Suburban for my wife wasn't free, either... :D

Our Roughneck 16ft. bass boat to do battle with the evil assault bass. Must be well rounded is all expensive hobbies

Also works well for an accidental dive platform and a 5 year olds war on bluegill.:D

Well, I'm probably going to forego a gun purchase in March and spend that month's gun money on a Dillon progressive reloader...

I've been kinda thinking along the same lines, since nobody sells match-grade 175gr semi-wadcutters in 10mm Auto for $8/50.

Valentine-One radar detector. A bit pricey, at a little over $400, but worth every penny if it saves me.
i used a gift certificate a couple years back and got a whisler talking radar detector.the voice is female-detects all bands,vg2,360 degrees...saved my life from hitting a train that didnt have gate signals at a dark RR crossing.Saved me more than a few tickets at speed traps in little hick towns i go through to work...it cost 70 bucks at the bestbuy store.the female voice is entertaining too at times"laaaayyy-zer".:D

I checked my money management software at the end of the year, and did a pie chart of my expenses. The "gun" category was first, followed by "rent" (which was just a couple hundred dollars behind). So apparently, if I do forego non-gun purchases, it's not very often. :D

passed on the Benelli Nova SP(GR)

Almost got it up a few weeks back, but remembered that I promised myself I'd get a kayak this year.

Almost bought the kayak last year but, with the impending move to MD, decided to use that money to get a P239 before I left Virginia.

I just bought a Perception Carolina 14.5 on clearance yesterday - saved almost $200!!! Can't really use it until April, though, when the ice breaks.

Sooo.. I used some of the $200 I saved to upgrade the 10/22 with an A&B 18", a Corelite stock, and bedding kit

That's not really a "gun" purchase, since no 4473 was involved, right?:neener:

I was pricing AR15s a little while ago, and not long after I decided to spend the money on another car so I could could park my project and actually get some work done on it.

Weird thing is, I gave up the AR funds for a Caprice, and I'm a Ford man.

Bass guitars, amps, a dulcimer, a snake or four. And the offspring is rebuilding a 302 engine, alot of gun money has found its way into that thing.

Off the top o my head:

11K Patio
4.7K bsmt waterproof
5K partial bsmt finish
1.9K tree removal
1.1K (dine rm) new back entrance
4.1K new frnce&a/c
.8K (garage) new back entrance
20k dwnpmt
6K kitchen
4.8k gambling - 2 years -yes, It's my other "hobby"

uhh, yeah.
<sarcasm>Not a problem though since I just waltz outside and harvest a handfull off of the money tree</sarcasm> - - according to some relatives anyhow:banghead:
JUST KIDDING!!!

Tamara,
Think of it as a long term investment towards increased gun funds.

Vacation.

My wife an I like to go to Europe. (more her then me) Every year is cost $4500-5000 for 2 weeks in either England or Germany. But it keeps her happy, and that's important.

Amateur astronomy is another pricey hobbie. Over the years I've put $1600 in a telescope and large objective binoculars and probably another $1700 in accessories for same. I guess that could have paid for a few more things that go bang, but ya gotta have something to do after the sun goes down too.

Considering that I just dropped six bills on a NIB HiPower, I'd say, "no."

Usually, the only thing stopping me from a new gun purchase is something important breaking, like my car.

Next purchase? Gotta be a milspec AR15......for training purposes.:p

I sold a Colt Officers ACP and a WW1 vintage Colt 1911 in order to buy a Martin acoustic guitar. I don't regret it, though, because the Off. ACP had reliability issues, and the WW1 Colt, although a very reliable shooter, was horribly inaccurate. I sold both of them at a profit, and Martin guitars hold their value quite well, so I shouldn't get hurt in the long run. I still have plenty of other guns, most of them more reliable and more accurate.
