I have been looking at Hawkbill knives for working & S.D.. I came across the Boker Plus Bat. It is a very nice looking blade that looks like it could be used for eather job. I was woundering if anyone has one & what do you think of it?

I am looking hard at the Spyderco Tasman Salt. I am not sure about getting the plan edge or serrated edge. I have a serrated SS Harpy & a Matriarch 2. I have decided to use the harpy as a EDC for now & use the matriarch 2 for S.D. . The Tasman Salt is just a little small IMO. But I have not been able to find a Spyderco Spyderhawk ( now discontinued! ).So the Tasman Salt will have to do if I go with Spyderco. I am also looking at some BYRD knives. They use less quality steel but I don't plan to be around the ocean. They are a cheaper brand imported by Spyderco. Any more advice on this would be very appreciated. Thanks!

The Boker is the only one that uses the liner lock. The Spyderco & BYRD brands use lockbacks I believe. That was one of the main reasons I was asking about it. The BYRD knives are cheaper as they are made in China & use more common & cheaper steel in the blades, like 440C, 2cr13, AUS-8, ECT. All good steel . But not like H2 or AG10! As I am on a very tight budget, those BYRDs are attractive! I picked up 2 back some years ago. ( not hawkbills ). That were very nice, they were lockbacks & were put up for grandsons. If anyone has that Boker Bat I would still like some information about it. Or if someone has the Spyderco Spyderhawk I would like to know about it . I would even consider buying one if I can find one. Thanks for the information about these knives .

I like versatile knives.

A knife with this shape autonatically removes your ability to stab. That makes it less versatile, IMO.

Hawkbills are very intimidating, but I'm in full agreement with John. They reduce you ability to stab and limit your slashing/hacking.
