Hello and good morning everybody .

Been reading up on the difficuly of getting primers shipped by an individual as you need to be hazmat certified to do so and it is costly and time consuming .

I have a relative who lives across the country who has a bunch of primers they are wiling to send to me but as we know they are not able to just drop them off due to no hazmat certification .

This person has enough primers to last me for a few years and just needs a way to get them to me .

Has anybody used a hazmat type broker to get the shipping done ?

Too far to drive to the opposite coast .

thanks for any help you can provide

One way would be to put the primers in brass, then the primed brass can be shipped by a normal person.
Maybe send him your brass and have him prime it then send it back to you???

I did think of that after a member here gave me that idea a while back when I was trying to find primers.

They dont have the time to prime all of brass cases I would want to send them .

Also would be nice to get a supply for a few years like others here have so I could wait to buy more at a reasonable price should I run a across any .

Would be nice to have my own stash for my needs , so close to having it just need a carrier who is legitimate hazmat to get them to me .

I used to ship Haz quite a bit (my company at the time got me certified). To this day I am trained as HazMat Aware - a lesser step. I am unaware of anyone offering a service similar to the one you seek at the consumer level.

Other than putting primers in brass, the next logical step would be to fly out to said relative and drive a rental back home.

Yet a further leap might involve setting up a chain of people to transport and shuttle the primers across the country.

Realistically though you are stuck getting primed brass or nothing going from individual to individual.

Thanks for the replies so far everybody .

Sounds like I am running out of options .

So close to primer security yet so far lol

Let Us know where the Primers are and Where You are. If I’m anywhere close to the chain I’d be willing to help out.

Primers are considered ORM-D

You can ship primers with UPS and it would be the simplest way to go. Really all one needs for small amounts is to ship in a strong cardboard box of specific strength, have a proper ORM-D label attached and take to a main UPS hub, not stores. There shouldn't be a hazmat fee for small amounts.
They'll only ship them Ground.

This is incorrect. Not only are primers not ORM-D (They are classified as 1.4 Explosives) but you cannot take them to ANY shipper and legally send them on their way.

Most importantly, straight from the government:

That's what I thought - anything troublesome, go to one of the larger hubs where there's a manager who hopefully knows (or can look up) the rules. They may give you the hairy eye if it's the first time (in my case, pistols).

When does one pay the HazMat fee ($30+), though?

Is there a weight cutoff?
Again, no. This link takes you straight to the rules as posted by UPS: https://www.ups.com/us/en/help-cent...nts/hazardous-materials/responsibilities.page

There are other such pages that can be found with a brief search.

Title 49 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) describes the requirements for shipping pretty much everything.

We are set up fairly well here on THR to do such a thing, what with all the members who have participated in Pay It Forward. I used to travel quite a bit for work and I imagine there are some here who still do the same.
I paid it forward to a member here not long ago. He's close by so I laid 3k LRP on him.
He said he'd name his next child after me, or something.
