Blade smiths (knife makers) get together from time to time in what's known as a "Hammer In" where the show off their talent and share skills with each other. This weekend will be the 10th Hammer In at Ron "Bowie" Claiborne's in NE Knox county. Ron is a highly respected knife maker and developer of knife making tools and blade smiths from across the country will be showing up to demonstrate their skills and share their knowledge with each other and anyone remotely interested in the ancient art of heating and beating steel into knives, axes and swords (as well as any useful or ornamental shape). These guys are happy to show everyone from kids to seniors how to get started forging tools and knives and give of their time freely in hopes of passing on their craft.
It starts Friday (actually things will start heating up Thursday night) and runs until Sunday afternoon. There's going to be a country band and bonfire Saturday night. I hope to be there the entire weekend (not likely).
Ron's forge is at 2918 Ellistown Rd Knoxville TN 37924.
