I have a a Savage 110 that has been upgraded with the installation of a CDI Precision Gunworks detachable box magazine conversion.

CDI Precision Gunworks

I'm fairly satisfied with the design, but I have one small issue. I would like the coil magazine latch spring to be heavier so that it's harder to release by accident.

Once I get some spare roll pins I can pull and measure the original, but how can I go about identifying a suitable replacement product, since most springs are ID'ed by application, not direct specification?

Because of ITAR export regs it's not very helpful for me to ask the mfgr, who also doesn't mention different weight latch spring offerings.

I was hoping to avoid having to make my own spring, I don't need such very often.

Should be able to find a heavier spring in the spring assortments at a hardware store you can cut to the correct length.

At least a U.S. hardware store like Ace or True Value.

Don't know about where you are though.

Hardware stores (and consumerism) in the Great White North lags the US by 10-20 years in some aspects.

I don't recalls seeing any spring assortments in our local hardware stores :-(

Looks like I can virtually shop for compression springs on AMAZON.COM.

Ask.

Ours have grey metal cabinets with sliding drawers chocked full of over-priced things like single springs and such.

It's usually near the overpriced nuts, bolts, and screws aisles.

I have a query into Canadian Tire about retail sale of general hardware compression springs. I haven't seen them in their stores before, nor are they listed on their corporate web pages.

After a lot of searching, I found a Canadian spring production company that will take web orders for production designs.

Once I can pull the existing spring to precisely measure the OD, at-rest length and wire diameter I should be ready to go.

The Canadian vendor has a nice spec-limit page where the user can make a bounded product search. Specifying a nominal OD and at-rest length yields a manageable list of candidates.

This is my current guess at a replacement w/o being able to pull the current:

(I'm waiting until I have replacement roll pins before I remove the latch+spring combo.)

Recommendation for cutting hard drawn steel fabricated compression springs to length?
My current thought is to brace the workpiece and use a diamond Dremel wheel.

Ordered compression spring stock from an Amazon.com vendor in the absence of an easily identified source.

(Same body diameter, next two wire sizes upwards.)
