Pardon if this sounds silly, but I'm looking for a load that produces a large amount of recoil in the 44mag; will I find it with the heaviest bullets or the highest velocities? This will be coming from a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter Bisley. About half of my loads are a 240g LSWC over 5.5g of Unique, the other half are a 240g LSWC over 22g of 2400. I'm wondering if I'd feel a little more thump from a much heavier bullet.

I know I need a 454 or a 460, but for now, with a 44 SBH, what's my best bet?

Thanks all,
Pat

I'd guess a 300 grain bullet with 20+ grains of Lil'Gun ought to do it.

(Your "22g of 2400" load is already way too hot IMHO, so maybe you can't get there in a .44 Mag)

That's published data for a Ruger BH, and I worked up to it gradually, so I feel comfortable with it.

So is the consensus heavier bullets?

Yes.

And another vote for Cast Performance. I am not sure if they -- or anyone else -- offers it, but LBT will sell you a mold for a 350 grain .44 WLN or WFN. I don't even know if the Blackhawk will stabilize this bullet, but if you want to be kicked, I guess this one'll do it.

Have fun!

Another set of molds is exactly what I'm looking for, that's a great idea, 38spl!

One way or another, I'll report back on what my findings are, just because I'm sure there's a couple other recoil junkies here.

I should think we'll need video. I personally grow to dislike recoil more with each passing year, but I never stop enjoying watching other people get kicked! :D

just out of curiousity, why are you looking for heavy recoiling loads?

I dunno, I just like the kick. It's like drinking a cup of coffee every time you pull the trigger. I seldom shoot loads like that, but every now and again, at the end of a range trip, it's fun. Or a buddy will ask what the "hardest kicking" load I have is, and this allows me an answer. I'd get a Ruger Alaskan in 454, but I'd probably only shoot it once or twice a year.

Take a look at the Lee 310 grainer, the only kicker is , it's a gas checked mold-BUT, you can get a 6 cav for less than $40! that with any max charge of 296 or
H110 should provide that 'sting' you require. that thing'll hit like Thor's hammer! Great bullet for the heavies in .44 mag.

An increase in bullet weight really increases felt recoil more than just a velocity increase.

The heaviest bullets I have fired in a Ruger SuperBlack Hawk were 290 grs. I did not like the recoil though the cartridges were very accurate and hit my gong targets with a big wallop.

The older I get, the less I like recoil.

Won't be long till I am using air guns only.

And it will happen to you

I was doing some experimenting with the Lee 310 gr. cast GC boolit and Lil'Gun over my chronograph. Shooting was done with my Ruger RH, and the results where over 1400 fps. The recoil approaches that of my .454 Casulls.

Yes......heavy projectiles are the answer for heavy recoil.
