I already have my favorite 240gr JHP loads dialed in, but I'd like something on the lighter faster side in 210gr JHP's. Specifically the Winchester STHP's. I bought a ton of them thinking they'd make great 44spl bullets, but they're really meant for 44mag velocities.

I'm looking to get about 1350-1450fps out of one of these bullets with excellent accuracy. Here are the powders I have to work with:

2400
Unique
Green Dot
700x
IMR 4227

These will be fired out of a Ruger SBH 7.5" barrel. Thanks in advance!

Of the powders you listed, only 2400 will give you the highest velocity with a 210 grain bullet.

Lyman #49 lists a Win Silvertip 210 out of a 4" test barrel.
21.0 grains 2400 starting load giving 1,090
And a 23.3 MAX load giving 1,285.

IMR-4227 would also work, but will be about 85 FPS slower with a compressed charge MAX load.

Thanks RC. I just did some more rummaging through my books and found that any of the decent loads with IMR 4227 are compressed. That's just something I'd rather not mess with.

I thought about using 2400, but wanted something a bit lighter. Maybe I should lower my fps down into the Unique range? What's your experience with 210gr bullets over 10~14gr over Unique?

Unique will do very well for mid-power .44 mag loads in the 1,000 - 1,100 range.

I thought you said you wanted barn burners at "1350-1450fps" is why I recomended 2400?

I'm open to suggestions. :) I was thinking a lighter bullet would be faster, but it looks like it won't be that much faster. A 1100fps round will probably be okay for what I'm looking for.

Glad you're responding - you always seem to have the right answer.

Come to think of it, would there be other powders to consider other than the ones I mentioned? I'm not opposed to buying more powder, but I was hoping to use some of the ones I have.

2400 will work great, but since you asked, AA #9 & N-110 are real good as well.

I do not "download" .41 or .44 Mag persay, although I have a couple of "reduced recoil" loads for them. Probably 90% of max. I still use AA #9 or N-110 powders for that though. I bought those calibers to go boom.

No reason not to download either of them to plinker levels with medium speed, or a tad faster, powders.

I have a 250 Gr 600ish FPS .45 Colt load that has great ES & SD numbers, is very accurate, and I can shoot it all day. Even some "recoil sensitive" friends like to shoot it. That way they get to shoot a "large" gun, without the recoil.

Well. I guess since you are missing 3.5" 1120 might be what you get with a 210 grainer.
