My gf is looking for a heavy frame 9mm pistol for range and HD duty. Concealability is NOT a factor, since we live in WI. Capacity is preferred 10 rds or above. Accessory rail also if possible. Do any of you gentlemen have suggestions?

Thanks

If you can afford it I'd recommend a Sig P226R or P229R, if price is an issue I was very impressed with my friends Ruger P95R. I think any of those would serve you well.

If you look at the P226, you'll want the P226ST model which is about 40 ounces. I have one, and it soaks up recoil very well. As long as she doesn't have problems with the grip, I think it would be a good choice.

What would you actually consider as being heavy? Is 30 ounces unloaded weight enough?

If you want new, I'd say the CZ SP-01 is the way to go. Certainly fills the bill as heavy frame. Another nice piece is the S&W 5906TSW. These came with rails. I believe it has been discontinued, but I'm sure new ones can be found. It's even easier to find like new ones (and for incredibly reasonable prices). I don't care for the rails myself, but don't begrudge others who like them. My favorite is a S&W 5946. These were made with the rail as the 5946TSW. Capacity is 18 (or maybe it's 19?) for the SP01 and 15 for the 5900 Smiths. I believe Mec-gar 5906 mags get 17 rounds. Anyhow, these would be top two on my list.

+1 for the 226.

This year I've taken to shooting at the range every week, up from a previous bi-annual status. I have many autoloaders, some group very nicely in slow fire, some wear better than others in a holster.

The 226 is the one I raise Cain with when I get down to shooting multiple targets for time. Natural in the hand, bulletproof disposition, quick to the eye... I can't say enough about it.

As I've said, I have many, many handguns. If it's time to fight for my life, and I had my choice of them, the Sig is first to hand.

I was playing w/ a couple heavy 9mm today -- a P7M8 and a Baby Eagle -- both are pretty nice shooters too :D

Look into a Star Model 30. Heavy, not pretty at all but very reliable. 15 rd capacity mag, DA/SA and a very simple safety.

Ah, the Star 30, very interesting and neat sidearm. Had a chance to buy one years ago, wish I had. Star and Interarms are waaaaay out of business, Numrich has what spare parts are left, I think.

My 226 will shoot 10 rings all day long, and eat whatever I give it. Another vote there.
