I have recently taken possession of a few guns that have been passed down from my Grandfather. I do not plan on selling ANY of them but there are other family members that I will be passing them along to for them to share in the memories, unfortunately, my Grandfather passed away before I was born but thats besides the real point.

Being that I do not want them to be sold, is there any reason not to have them refinished? If one or two of them were highly collectible I would most likely leave them alone with plans to sell much later in life.

Right now I have found:
12ga Winchester 1911 (cracked forearm but good finish, action works perfectly)
12ga H&R single shot (pitted bore, but the action is tight)
20ga Iver Johnson sxs (not sure of the model grade, tight action, so-so wood finish, great metal finish)
Marlin 39 (maybe A but not sure, no safety, all original parts except for the magazine tube, good finish on wood and metal)
Springfield Stevens 87A (working action, bad metal finish, almost no wood finish)
Springfield 1861 musket (US markings, original parts no bayonet, has a black powder load and ball lodged in barrel)

All of these guns are in working condition, but show signs of wear and use.
Any information on these guns would be greatly appreciated

IMHO, if you dont care about value, historical "correctness", etc, then to refinish or not is just personal preferance.Your guns, do as you please, especially if re-sale value or "originality" is of no concern.
