Ok, so I know a lot of people are going to put it under the ugly tree, but for anyone who likes a .45 and has any use for a derringer, this could be an interesting alternative.

I don't get any THR search results on Heizer, has anyone else seen this?

That would have to be uncomfortable to shoot...lol...14 ounces won't soak up much recoil. I could see it as a third gun kept in deep concealment. However at 5.5 inches in length it isn't all that small, my PF-9 is 5.85 and only 2 tenths thicker.

looks pretty cool. i might buy just for the novelty, but i don't really see it as being very practical, as there are guns that are not much bigger that can do 6+1 (albeit in 380 or 9) and I don't think i'm willing to bet my life on getting a hit with two shots because if you miss you're kinda screwed

Thanks. I enjoyed Utube link and first choice following the add which is entitled "Firearms negligence".

Interesting, and I'd like one as an oddity, but...,

Probably will never be approved for sale in Maryland,

for the cost I'd rather have an SP101 or S&W 940, and three more shots, and
ultra light weight doesn't impress me that much to warrant the cost,

A new one on me.

That's rather interesting. A DAO reprise on the old O/U derringer idea is a good idea, but not a new one. This iteration looks well thought out. I can't tell for sure from the site, but it looks like the receiver might be built up in flat layers, the side plates being the outermost layers. That's clever.

The Heizer is thin for .45, and rather short, but there are .38 snub revolvers that weigh no more. I can see it as a backup (maybe a third gun) for someone armed with a .45 ACP or 9mm pistol. The company is missing a bet by not offering .40 S&W barrels.

Wot no .410 barrels ? ;)

At first glance, it has an appearance similar to the old "COP", which was a four-barreled "derringer" type pistol from the late 1970's. It contained four barrels, chambered for .357 Magnum. However, it had the worst trigger pull ever, until the Ruger LCP .380. We fired it with several different types of .357 Magnum ammo, and never found anything that didn't hurt. Even .38 Special +P's had a considerable bite.

Well, it' says it's tactical so that means it MUST be good, right? :D

Seems to me that although it solves some of the poor grip situation of the classic style derringer it's still got the same issue of two highly different bore axes. That means it's going to have wildly different POI's for the two rounds which makes it only good for arms length shots.

If they were smart they would have used different sizes or numbers of compensator holes in the two barrels to aid in making the two rounds fly on the same path. But as it is you can expect the top barrel's round to impact about 2 feet high about 5 to 7 yards away compared to the bottom one.

I fail to see the practicality of porting a firearm that is intended for very close combat.

Lots of opinions and some good responses. Here's a real basic question: when will, if ever these things ship? Their website...hmmm. They are beginning to look like many other firms in any industry, announce some product, set some vague ship dates then never follow through. Finally if/when they do, many potential customers have moved on;)

Yes, I agree with you. I took great interest at the onset because of it's 'ultimate carry' config and I'm a sucker for anything made out of Ti.
But at this point, perhaps the Heizer people can speak up and give us an update because I have psychologically moved on. And I'm sure that many others have as well.
I saw that they were at the Shot show, but that doesn't mean they're shipping...

Not all that small, which may not be a bad thing for a 45. But it is a derringer class of weapon so I am suprised at the size

3" barrel, I've been looking at web pics and think it has a practical use; but it sure seems kinda pricy and big for what it is (meant to be)

Actually got my hands on one at the NRA show in St. Louis last weekend. Nice concept for a BUG, lighter than my cell phone. You wouldn't tire of having it in your pocket all day. I imagine in a real life use situation, you wouldn't be thinking about the pain of recoil from such a light gun. I would say price would be the one thing that would hinder success. If it were cheaper I might consider it.
