Okay, I'm fairly competent at picking out my own 9mms and 38 snubs....but I can't seem to decide on a .22....I've narrowed it down between the 3.5 inch waltehr P22 and the Beretta 87f cheetah for an auto...I sometiimes think a smith 8 shot revolver would also be nice....I don't want a target type auto or big *** revolver...no striker fired rugers, high standards, etc....basically ant a scaled down combat design auto or a small wheeler...
 
i like your criteria.
I've been thinking about a 2'' Taurus 92 9-shot .22lr. I like the idea of cheap practice and plinking and the simplicity and reliability of a revolver. but i've been wondering if the shorter sight radius would make a 2 inch snub a poor choice for training myself and others. perhaps this something you might have considered earlier, i'd appreciate everyone's opinion.
 
S&W makes a small frame .22 DA revolver (M-317 I think). Ruger has a .22 LR SP101 that's slightly larger than a S&W J frame (4" only barrel). Taurus M-94 DA revolver in 2" to 5" (about J frame size). Ruger makes a .22 with a grip frame that approximates a 1911 (but it's striker fired)
 
Walther P22

I just picked up a Walther P22 this past Friday. Cool gun, and you cannot beat the price - $233 here in SE Michigan. If you get one, just make sure to get the newer mags with the "A" suffix. Mine has a 2003 date code, and the fired case that was in the box was produced 1-21-03.

My understanding is that with the newer ones, earlier problems have been corrected. It will make a nice addition to my MKII, S&W Model 17, and Ruger Bearcat .....

How about a conversion kit for a centerfire auto that you might own at the present time ???
 
I have a hi-power and a conversion for it would be sweet but about the same price as a dedicated 22...maybe even more...and we all need something entirely new once in a while...I'm just surprised more people don't have the 87f cheetah...it is a sweet handling gun with great looks......can pick it up for 300...the P22 for 249....I'm more a Smith fan for revolvers but would consider a Taurus for a gun I'm not carrying...I'll check them out to...ideally a 3 inch revolver with 8 or 9 shots would be nice also....and easier to reload than 22 mags....with no jams....

by the way, I can't find the taurus 94 on their web site..do they still make it?
 
Point-of-fact: Rugers are not striker fired, they have hammers that are not visable or acessable except when the gun is stripped.
 
The price for the soon to be released HP conversion kit is in the area of $200.. You can't get a decent 22 for that price,not new anyway...
 
The conversion kits would be fine if you specifically wanted to practice handling that gun but with cheap plinking ammo. But having a separate .22 is just that, a whole new gun.

Find a P22 to shoot. You will be hooked. I got mine for $222.50.
 
Personally,id pass on both of those.Chances are better than not the Walther will require premium .22 and that defeats the purpose of the caliber if you ask me.How about a Beretta Neos? Its big but nice.
 
If you want a scaled down, combat style semi-auto, I don't think you can beat the Beretta Mod. 87. More people don't have them because of their cost. $300 sounds like a very good price. Is it used? I've never seen them for less than $400+ new.

Others that come to mind are the Bersa (same as their .380, but in .22) and the Llama, scaled down 1911 in .22. Again its the same as their .380, but in .22.
 
I too really like the Cheata but if you want to save a little money and have a gun that shoots with the best of them, try a Bersa .22. I have a Model 23 and it is very nice, great trigger, impressivly accurate, med sized, good value.

I think the Bersa Thunder is going for $220 NIB if you can find one. Mine is the older 23 and I think it is made better. I got mine for $175 NIB out the door and I think I got a great deal.

That Bersa is a sweet looking gun...now I have more to think about...and yes, the 87f is NIB for 300 at the LAPD academy store...for that price I might just go with it....

Yeah, mine uses premium ammo. I use Remington Golden Bullet ammo at $8.95 per box of 525. :what:

This stuff has jammed on me twice while shooting "gangsta" style and limpwristing horribly.
 
As much as I like my Bersa .22, if I could get a Beretta for $300, I think I would go that route. I have never shot one of those Berettas but they look so nice and feel good too. My Bersa will group nickle sized groups all day long. It really puts a smile on your face when a gun is far more accurate then you thought it would be.:)

What other guns do they have at that store? Sounds to me like you should stock up!
 
They carry mostly LAPD/LASO authorized weapons (berettas, sw snubs, sw 39/69s) but also a few kimbers, the walther for 249, and a few odds and ends....

From where does this claim originate? I've noticed that in this and at least one other thread you bash the P22. I would not bad mouth the Neos because I do not own one. In fact, if I were to purchase another .22 handgun I would consider the Neos first.

My claims of P22 reliability come from first hand ownership by both myself and my cousin who purchased one around the same time I made my purchase. Head on over to the Walther forums and you'll see that there are others who have had similar success as I have. If you consider the fact that those with problems are normally the most vocal, that makes the P22's success that much more remarkable in my opinion.
 
Interestingly enough, I've been very happy with my Buckmark and Ruger MkII. Are those allowed in Kali? In any event, that Beretta for 300 is a very good buy. I'd get what feels best. The 1911 style of the Buckmark works best for me.
 
I havent shot 10 of them but the one i experienced REQUIRED premium ammo to function reliably.This is VERY common and has been reported by many others besides myself.The gun shop i frequent says they have had a LOT of complaints regarding the Walther P22.They even stopped selling them.Why do you think S&W is replacing whole guns rather than try to fix them?
 
And im not bashing them.Theres a LOT of nice reliable .22's out there.The P22 is not one of them IMHO.If yours fires bulk ammo reliably and you like it thats GREAT.I LOVE my Hi-Point and most people hate them.Who cares!;)
