Hellcat

Stopped by an LGS in Idaho to see if they happened to have a Hellcat in stock. They actually had one, the non RDS model, for $499. Same price as the P365 next to it.

Clerk said they are having trouble keeping them in stock and that they have every configuration of the P365 available as demand has dropped significantly.

I fondled both extensively with all magazines and the Hellcat felt slightly better than the P365, but both were fine. If I really wanted a micro 9mm (and compared to my G19 Gen 5 MOS, they are tiny) I would probably go for the Hellcat.

That is funny Trey. The 365's are plentiful now. Interesting to see how things change so much over time. I see the prices dropping already. Now around $449. I see them going to around $399 in the future.
At last check, my LGS could not get a Hellcat in. While I am more than happy with my Micro 9mm's, the Hellcat does impress me at this point of just handling one. Still want to shoot one. The 365 was a lousy fit for me. While I have never considered a RDS, that might be something I would like, especially with aging eyes, so I would get the cutout for the small difference in price. In fact, that impresses me more than the round count. Might just have one of my carry guns just get sent off to have one cut.
And I will say, almost all the reviews are showing the Hellcat to have great reliability from the start which is a good sign.
And I would not worry about sights. I have a feeling sight manufactures are going to be jumping at providing them once this pistol gets going in the field and availability increases. Looks like the Hellcat is a Winner.

Once again, thanks for the Review Tom and congrats. Keep us posted in the future.

Assuming you are correct, and it is certainly feasible, I see a second one in my future as well.

I am a big believer in having two of the same carry firearms. Providing you are training and shooting them on a regular basis. One for training one for carry.

It really does make a lot of sense, especially when one has purchased accessories that can be utilized for both. It is nice to establish a handgun's reliability for carry and then put the rounds through a duplicate so as to keep the carry piece nice, tight and ready.

This would be especially true of micro handguns as often they are not designed to be high round count firearms.

I'm closing in on 1000 rounds through my Hellcat with no failures using 115 grain PMC, 124 grain HST, 115 grain Tullammo, 115 grain Cor-Bon +P DPX and my reloads. I need to pocket carry due to back and neck issues and my primary carry gun now is my Glock 26. I carry the Hellcat when the 26 doesn't conceal well due to what I'm wearing. Sig got my P365 up and running, with the last issue being two bad 12 round magazines which caused the slide to not lock back upon shooting the last round. They replaced those magazines and I sold it, pending meeting the buyer Saturday afternoon. I thought they had the P365XL working but experienced more light primer strikes last weekend using PMC ammo exclusively. I've been working with one of their service managers who agreed to replace the gun given the number of issues I've had. As much as I like it, I'm selling it as soon as I receive the replacement as I've lost confidence in them and the 26 and Hellcat have worked out so well.

@TomJ thanks for the continued update, hope the Hellcat keeps on trucking for you, with what you’ve been through.

OK. I still wouldn't do it.

The modification being discussed in no way reduces safety. If the tab was filed to short the gun would simply fail to fire because it isn't being depressed enough.

The only issue I had with my P365 were the first few rounds out of one mag. It took a excessive amount of force to get the last several rounds into that magazine with a loader and the slide had to be physically closed on those rounds because they stopped the slide when it attempted to load them. After those few rounds it never malfunctioned again.

It's nice to see new options available in the same size and capacity range.
