Bought a Saiga 12 today.

I've researched well into before I bought. I think I'll enjoy it, that's for sure.

But, like most of mine, it'll sit on a wall 99% of the time.

But, regardless, I love it. I bought 2 10 round magazines along with it. Had to file them a little bit to fit.

Ordered a barrel shroud, butt stock with pistol grip and a quad rail forearm. :)

The conversion moves the pistol grip to the intended position, allows you to use AK stocks and pistol grips (or AR stocks and grips depending on the parts you use) it also greatly improves the trigger pull. if you plan on doing the basic conversion and have any questions, feel free to pm me, if i don't know the answer i'll help you find it.

For my conversion I bought the Tromix DIY hammer group and trigger group from MAA. The conversion took an hour, no rocket science degree needed. I am well pleased with these parts and service from MAA. The rest of the gun has been a labor of love as far as accessories go. FWIW if the gun is new it will take about 150 rnds to break-in to start cycling with low brass low cost ammo.

The conversion restores the gun to its intended design. Balance and handling are dramatically improved. The funky wish bone trigger linkage is eliminated and the new trigger results in a trigger pull that is so greatly improved its difficult to describe to someone that has not tried both.

Here is a project I have tried to chronicle a bit on this board http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=473230

Maybe, maybe not, I've had/been around enough saigas to know that they vary. I have had a guns that run low brass just fine from the first shot. I have seen others that needed some work to get running properly.

You researched Saiga 12s well, but aren't sure what the point of the conversion is? How much research did you do? Have you been to forum.Saiga-12.com? You'll find an insane wealth of knowledge there about the shotguns and the rifles, along with deals from vendors as long as you're registered there. I converted my Saiga .223 and it took about 2 hours, complete with painting. It's worth converting for the better ergonomics, plus if you're like about 80% of the people who buy the socks with the pistol grips attached, in around 6 months you'll end up doing a full conversion anyway.

What stock did you buy?
What is the shroud for? Heat shield?
It's mostly just to look neat, and that they do.

I learned all of the factory specs and what not. Nothing aftermarket or modification related.

And yes, they look nice. That's the only reason. Hahaha. Say what you like but, I like it.
