Where do I buy bullets? Seems everywhere i looked it costs about $.10/each. Is there any cheaper source?

I thought the total cost of reloading is 8-11 cents for 45 ACP. I was looking forward to doing some real saving. *faint Adding brass, primer and powder, my cost would be easiy 20 cents.

at this price, i may just buy the $10/50 pack from walmart and save myself all the trouble.

Please help!!!

it used to be. the last time i bought win 230g FMJ, i got them for $60/1000 from Midway. that was about a year and a half ago. i'm glad i got many thousands of them. now, they're $104.

The savings in reloading is just that, not haveing to buy brass but reloading brass you have already collected from previous shooting. Save your brass from that $10 a box Wallmart bargain and load it back up for 10 to 12 cents a round cost for jacketed bullet, powder and primer. So at $6 a box you save $4 to $5 over the Walmart ammo. If you shoot at a range you can usually pick up once fired brass from non reloading shooters that toss them in the brass bucket of leave them laying about. You can buy hard cast bullets for around 5 cents a piece that should lower your cost to $3 to $3.50 a box of 50 for even greater savings.

"...costs about $.10/each..." Jacketed? Go buy some 230 grain cast. RN's are ok, but FP's work well too. In any case, reloading isn't about saving money. It's about using the best possible ammo for your pistol. Would you buy a suit in Wal-mart?

How can I make the ammo at 10-12cents/round when the bullet alone sells for 10-12 cents or more?

also, is shooting pure lead bullets from a 3 inch CDP 1911 ok?

Sorry, I am really new to this reloading stuff. always shot FMJ.

shooting lead is fine.

your still missing the point though. yes you can save money on reloading. depends on what your shooting then at the same time what kind of ammo.

You can not match the quality of ammo you reload on your own. for one. you have case fireformed rounds thats worth a lot more than any off the shelf bullet. Then you pick the powder the bullet the primers and the combination to compile a round that can not come off an assembly line. Your ammo will be way better in performance than any factory made round. of course you need to try it to find out. Same time you have no idea what it feels like to fire a round that you personally made yourself. there are no words that can be said.

Scrat, you mean the feeling like not sure if it's going to explode in your hand and put a piece of metal into your eyes?

*laugh

What they said. I just got 2,000 bullets delivered for $120 from Bear Creek. 200gr SWC. They load and shoot great. .06 for the bullet, .02 for the primer, .02 or less for powder, free brass. If I can't feel comfortable shooting more than 25 or 50 of these, I will shoot the .22. And enjoy it.

If you dont know what your doing or have not done your research your probably correct. Now if you bought some reloading manuals did all your research made some dummy rounds(less primer and powder). looked at all the load data. researched the load data you want to use a few times until you almost memorized it. then actually loaded live rounds.

You go out to the range shoot a few rounds of factory ammo. then put some of yours in your firearm. take a breath, pull the trigger, do it again and again and again.

Then your hooked. Next thing your on your way home trying to decide how to change the load to get different effects then buying different bullets, primers and powder combos. Asking people on this forum and others of their load data experience. making a log and then changing and recording data time and time again. then you decide to cast your own bullets and you try to match factory made bullets or make them better.

its an addiction. You have not got it yet.

Now if you are still looking for the cheap thrill of pulling a trigger may i suggest a .22 then go buy a brick of 500 rounds at wallymart for 8 dollars. then go to town.

www.nationalbullet.com
