I just inherited this rifle as well as a few others from my Grandfathers estate...however this is the only one i'm not sure of...I took it to a gunsmith who told me it was in good shape and safe to fire (which i have) here is my problem....I was told that it was a sporterized 6mm remington with mauser action.....it has several crosses stamped into the bolt, receiver, and body i was told it was of spanish make! other than that i know nothing about it...i was hoping somebody could tell me more

mmm.... 6mm , my favorite centerfire cartridge. Ive never heard of a mauser made to that cal, but I suppose it is doable. Remmy made them in 600, 660 688 700 and 740 742 models. They are fast , and flat, the only other better cartridge in that range, faster and flatter, between 6 and 7 mils, is the 25.06. the 6mm has a much better barrel and throat life, due to the case and neck design. I don't know those marks, however, if you could take some close ups of the marks and receiver.
Also , remove that scope and the rings, maybe more marks under them. I would also like to look at the boltand handle a little more close up, to see if it is in fact a Remmy or not.

Ah yes, tell us more about the safety. Does it clear the scope by maybe functioning on one side only instead of the 180 deg swing of the military?

Is that a floorplate release inside the trigger guard? (commercial or 1909 Argie)

Does it have clip slots? Does it have a thumb notch? (military features.)

It could be either a sporterized military Mauser, a Spanish or other commercial action with barrel and stock installed by gunsmith, or an imported sporting rifle.

Hey guys i have just been informed that it is probably a Spanish
Model 1893 Mauser...yes the release is inside the trigger guard...the safety still functions 190 i just have the scope relief far unough forward to allow it to barely clear...and yes it has clip slots...

ooops 1895 based on the bolt....either way it was more than i knew to begin with! Thanks

It is a sporterized Model 1893 Spanish Mauser. The 6mm is a fairly high intensity cartridge, but the rifle should be fine as long as factory loads or equivalent handloads are used. Someone spent a fair amount of money on that rifle and it should be a good hunting rifle for medium game (white tail deer) and with the right bullet, varmints as well.
