How bad have I screwed up? I was attempting to remove the barrel nut on my Savage action yesterday and bent the receiver. The smallest action bar has bent in about .055in. Is this something that can be fixed at all or do I need to be looking for a new action. If I were to see about fixing this how should I go about fixing it. I know the easiest way would be to heat it and bend it back, but I know the receiver is heat treated from the factory. I could just be sick about this. Thanks for any advice.

I'm sorry, but a bent receiver almost always means the receiver is ruined.

Owners of guns with tweaked or bent receivers are often upset when they learn that the factory doesn't have some kind of machine or method of just straightening a receiver.
Receivers are usually not made of a really hard steel and are usually fairly soft and easily bent.

Heat will absolutely destroy the receiver and make it totally unsafe to fire.

All I can suggest is contacting Savage and ask what they can do. It's at least "possible" they can repair it. Probably their only option will be to sell you a new receiver and they'll want to install it for liability reasons.
