I'm looking for my very first silencer and could use some help. It would be for my .308 Win. hunting rifle with an 18 inch barrel. I'd like it to also be able to handle 7MM Rem Mag pressures from a 20 inch barrel.
I value weight savings and shortness, but not at significant expense of noise reduction.
Two silencers I'm looking at are the Carnivore from SD Tactical Arms (8.125"/11.1 oz.) and SilencerCo Harvester EVO (6.235"/10.8oz.).
SilencerCo seems to be a much larger company, therefore I'm more confident that they'll still be in business if I need warranty work done in the future.
Weight is nearly identical, but the Carnivore is about 2 inches longer. Should I expect the extra length to make a noticeable enough difference in noise suppression to justify the slightly longer dimensions?
I'm not sure how much difference titanium vs stainless steel makes, so if anyone could enlighten me that'd be great. The Harvester EVO is of a "Tubeless design constructed of cobalt-6, inconel, and 17-4 stainless steel." while the Carnivore states that it "...utilizes a monocore style baffle system bored out for .30 caliber...Full Titanium construction, user serviceable, with a matte anodized finish.
I'm thinking I'll most likely be direct threading the silencer, not using a quick detach mount.
If anyone could help me choose between these two silencers the help would be greatly appreciated. I also wouldn't mind other suggestions around the $700 price point.
