I'm looking for my very first silencer and could use some help. It would be for my .308 Win. hunting rifle with an 18 inch barrel. I'd like it to also be able to handle 7MM Rem Mag pressures from a 20 inch barrel.

I value weight savings and shortness, but not at significant expense of noise reduction.

Two silencers I'm looking at are the Carnivore from SD Tactical Arms (8.125"/11.1 oz.) and SilencerCo Harvester EVO (6.235"/10.8oz.).

SilencerCo seems to be a much larger company, therefore I'm more confident that they'll still be in business if I need warranty work done in the future.

Weight is nearly identical, but the Carnivore is about 2 inches longer. Should I expect the extra length to make a noticeable enough difference in noise suppression to justify the slightly longer dimensions?

I'm not sure how much difference titanium vs stainless steel makes, so if anyone could enlighten me that'd be great. The Harvester EVO is of a "Tubeless design constructed of cobalt-6, inconel, and 17-4 stainless steel." while the Carnivore states that it "...utilizes a monocore style baffle system bored out for .30 caliber...Full Titanium construction, user serviceable, with a matte anodized finish.

I'm thinking I'll most likely be direct threading the silencer, not using a quick detach mount.

If anyone could help me choose between these two silencers the help would be greatly appreciated. I also wouldn't mind other suggestions around the $700 price point.

No. Monocores suck. I'd wager good money the Carnivore is louder than a Harvester Evo on any host.

I don't have any direct experience with the Harvester Evo, but I would expect decent performance within the class & limitations of a 6-3/4" suppressor of modest diameter. Probably does quite well with 5.56, likely a bit boomy but tolerable with .308 &.30-06 class rounds, and I'd bet more than I'd want to tolerate without ear pro on a .300 win mag, the largest round it's rated for.

We do have some lightweight options, though our titanium critters are a bit over the OP's $700 mark. They're also quieter, rated for larger cartidges, shorter barrels and heavier use, though. And we make them in .26, .375 and .458 calibers as well as .30

Weights in ounces w/o mount. Titanium direct thread mounts are about 1 ounce.

This is easy. Buy any .308 can from the guy quoted here (@MachIVshooter in case that's unclear). Then sit back and wait for the best can you'll ever own.

As an aside, and not to take any shine off Nick's offerings at all - I have several of the basic Harvester-300 (direct thread) and think well of them for hunting use. They're definitely a budget option, but so far they seem a solid choice for the form factor.

The Harvester EVO appears to be an evolution of the SilencerCo Omega-300. A version of it was selected by FBI HRT for .308. The EVO has known HUB or ‘bravo’ semi-universal rear tube threads of 1.375” x 24 tpi allowing many mounting/muzzle device options. The Omega-300 suppresses well for its size. The EVO has durable materials in spite of its weight. Most people eventually choose a shorter, lighter suppressor if their first cans are long & heavy for the “only buying one, has to be most durable & most quiet” more is better utility maximization. In reality nobody likes making their rifles unnecessarily longer & heavier. Lightweight cans will get hot faster and produce mirage faster. There’s no free lunch.

Monocore rifle suppressors like the SDT Carnivore typically underperform single-clipped steep cones like the EVO.

Ecco Machine has top notch machining, an excellent reputation for both service and quality, and clever designs that are insightful.

SilencerCo until July 24 (IIRC) has a buy one, get a free rimfire or rifle can deal. For $700 in SilencerCo products with one suppressor you could get a free rimfire can. These BOGO deals take a long time to come to fruition though.
