Hello, joined the site last night, looks interesting. I have found that posting gun questions on non gun sites seems to get me in trouble.

I am looking for suggestions for left handed holsters for strong side concealed carry. I can not seem to get comfortable with an inside the pants holster but I am willing to consider all suggestions.
I have 2 autoloaders I carry.
Springfield XD40, 3"
Springfield Ultracompact .45acp, 3.5"

I have my bedside weapon I am considering carrying if I can find a quality concealed holster for it.
Kimber 5" 1911.

Like I said, cool site. I've already seen a few informative debates. More questions to come.

In all honesty, you will end up with a box of holsters looking for the one you like.

I am a lefty, but that really doesn't come into play here as much as you think. The important thing is to find the comfortable holster.

I presently have two that I use all the time.

Both are from Milt Sparks. The IWB is a VersaMax2, the OWB is the improved Baker (I-BAK). I carry a full size Govt model 1911 and have no problems with either one of them.

The biggest downside to ordering from Milt Sparks is the 20 week wait time for the holster.

There are numerous other quality holster makers out there that will work just as well.

When you order your holster, spend the extra money and get a dedicated gun belt to go with it, it is one of the most important accessories you can get to go with your holster.

Try a DeSantis Speed Scabbard. Its a pancake style holster that rides high and pulls the gun in tight against the body. Some have two belt slots so you can choose a more forward cant or less if you prefer. Has an adjustable screw retention as well. If you prefer a thumb break, the Thumb Break Mini Slide is almost the same holster but with the added retention of a, you guessed it, a thumb break. Not needed IMO. If you prefer IWB, Don Hume makes a very comfortable one, I think it is the H715. Like BobR said, you'll probably end up with a box of holsters before you settle on what you like. The Desantis and Don Hume are what I found I like after trying many others. Your results may vary.

I have a Galco Speedmaster that I use for my SP101, and I am very pleased with it. It is a molded pancake style with no thumb break.
Make sure you get a good stiff belt to support your holster because a soft belt lets things flop around too much. The holster and belt are a systems anbd intended to work together.

I'm happy with my Comp Tac CTAC holsters. They make them for lefties, no wait time, reasonably priced, comfortable, and have good retention (I like that kydex "click"). I got the "slide" model for glocks since I carry a few different sizes (basically the bottom is open so slide length doesn't matter) but I don't know if they make a slide model for the XD. I also have one for the XD subcompact.
I got mine from gunnersalley.com. Their prices were decent, service excellent, and I was blown away at how fast they got them here (I think it was 2 days with standard shipping).

Go to your local Gun-Show (if you have them) and look around. At mine holsters are every where. If you can`t find one there your in big trouble.
Good luck.

Welcome to THR. I'm a lefty too and carry a Kimber 4",XD-45 4" and a Glock 20 depending on the mood.

I have gone thru several holster for each model and have finally settled in on the ones below.

For the Kimber its IWB using a Galco Royal Guard. I also have a Galco Silhouette High Ride for belt carry.

XD rides in a Desantis Inner Piece and its a nice fit. For OWB carry I have an H721 open top. This might be a good buy for you if you don't like IWB. Here's a picture of it. Of course this is the web page pic and they only show right hand.

It's only abot $39 so it won't break the bank if you don't like it. http://www.donhume.com/Products/ProductsList.cfm?action=SearchByWeapon&WeaponID=243 is the website for Don Hume but shop around cause other dealers sell them for less than what Don Hume site shows.

The Glock rides in a Bianchi Accumold when I'm out in the bush and in a Don Hume H721 double nine which is the same holster as the OT but with a secure strap.

Hope this helps. Happy shopping.

Here you'll find that posting non-gun questions will get you in trouble. :D

Welcome to the forum . I'm a lefty as well. I found a cheap Uncle Mike's ambi cordura holster that I use. Its not ideal but it works.

Thanks all,

the reason I mentioned lefty at all is in the catalogs many (not all) say right hand.
Local gunshows within 100 mile radius radii?? only seem to have nylon holsters.
I prefer not to have a thumb break.

I have a kydex bladetec inside the pants rig for the 3.5" .45. never got comfortable wearing it, and drawing from it (for me) is not smooth. I have another polymer unit for the same weapon. It's a Comp-tec adjusted to ride high and I think you guys are on to something here, the belt is the weak link there even though its 1.5" wide. Flops too much.
I use a Galco Matrix 7 for the XD. Poly, small, close in and open bottomed. Seems a little loose and there are no tension adjustments on it.
I prefer not to have a thumb break.

I have a 25 year old leather Bianchi shoulder rig that can carry the full size .45 but it wasn't really made for it and in the courses I took the only carry allowed was strong side. Once the reasoning for that on the hot range was explained to me I understand.

I believe the box full of holsters statement must be true because I am working my way up to that myself.

Thank you for the leads.

I am seriously thinking about givng up left handed carry. Holsters are near impossible to find for it. I am at the point where I do 75% of my practice right handed now.

The nuns tried for years to make me right handed, I gues it is taking guns for me to try it, lol.

There are a lot of lefty holsters out there. No, you won't run into them at the local shop or gunshow. You have to hit all the holster manufacture web sites and see what they had to offer.

76Shuv;

I too am a lefty & use a Milt Sparks holster. I carry an H&K USPc .40 in the Exec's companion IWB. I bought the Sparks belt with mine & it's been an excellent combination - for the last 10 years. Daily carry also. As you might presume, it's been both comfortable and durable.
