How do I remove the pawguard from my M1A Scout?

I was cleaning the upper w/ brake cleaner and the stuff started stripping the (lousy) paint on the rifle.

Now the paint goo is stuck inside and I don't know how to take it off! Help!

(OTOH I guess it's time to camo my rifle)

Skunk, there is a metal u-shaped clip with two short legs that fit into shallow slots on the barrel; there should also be a hole in the legs. get your self a proper sized punch and use it in one of the holes to pop the leg out of the slot. Carefull you don't scratch the barrel finish.

When you put the handguard back on, the front slips into the u-shaped retainer and the rear just snaps on until the legs pop into the slots on the barrel.

easy peasy.

Oh yeah forgot; if you see yourself doing this alot, SA will sell you a nifty tool to do it properly.

Skunk,

If you are ready to camo your rifle, check out Karsten or Whamo-Chamo... lots of images posted on http://www.battlerifles.com
