M1A Handguard Clip removal

Anyone know how to remove the handguard clip on an M1A handguard?

I need to take it off and reinstall it on a vent handguard I bought today.

I believe there 's a special pair of pliers made especially for that. You might check Bownells.

The special tool noted above is of course the Army approved way.

If you notice, there is a hole at each end of the clip. If you tie some stiff wire through the hole, you can tie one end to something stationary and the other to something like a screwdriver shaft. Pull gently to spread the clip and remove the handguard.

Works like a charm!

I just use a screwdriver, with some tape to protect the finish on the bbl.
