Can anyone help identify this pistol?

It does not seem to have any identifying marks but I'm hopeful that somebody recognizes the metal heart on the grip.

Thanks for any help in advance.

This was a pretty common type in Belgium, and widely imported, but lots of American gunmakers also made their own copies. If this one is Belgian, it'll have a "ELG" proofmark somewhere on the barrels.

Yeah, I've been looking at those on Gunbroker. Most that I've seen have been Belgian. Fairly common, but cool old guns. I want to get one too. I saw an under over a little while ago. It sold for quite a bit. No idea on dates though.

Thanks for the input.

There does not seem to be any proof/manufacturer marks on the barrel so I guess this must be a US copy.

Does that mean it's a reproduction or is it a period copy of the time?
With that in mind...any idea of an approximate date range of manufacture?

Also, since the words "common" and "copy" are being used this pistol probably doesn't have much value.
But is there any value (estimate/guesstimate) or is this a wall hanger at best?

Thanks again for the help.

You realy can not assume on these types of guns. It does look old, it does look to be of good quality.

This type of gun was made in England Spain and France, as well as Belgium and the US. (and other places) Many were made by small gun shops or makers and carried no markings, or just small proof markings if the maker decided to get them proofed.

The bottom line is you might have an ordinary gun or a nice treasure. It takes a collector/expert to make a decent appraisel. Don't assume anything until all the research is done.

It looks like a "kit" gun, like those sometimes sold by Dixie.
