Side by side 16 ga

Left side of reciver is marked

"SPRINGFIELD"
"J.S. STEVENS ARMS COMPANY"
"CHICOPEE FALLS MASS. U.S.A"

On the bottom of the reciver is a small circle with the#8 (could be letter B) in the middle
this is centered on the lower side just aft(1/8th in) of the place where it breaks open, The sr# is E8919? this is located on the left side under where the breech end closes.

the Left Barell is marked "PROOF TESTED 16 GAUGE" The right is marked""SELECTED FORGED STEEL"

Looks common no engraving is blued also had 2 triggers and a slide safety on the tear of the stock tang the upper end of the safty slide is marked safe on the reciver

Thank You

You have a J. Stevens 16-gauge SxS. You've already identified it.

Stevens was an independent maker of firearms up until just after WW II, IIRC. They were then bought out by Savage.

Don't know what model it might be. Not a lot of collector's interest unless it's REALLY old.

Otherwise, they're decent utilitarian shotguns.

Guy:
Springfield was originally built by Crescent Firearms Co, and Springfield was a trade name used by that Company and J.Stevens. See Attached
I am sending by separate email, the Crescent Story, and the J Stevens story. The photos are too large to put on THR.
