I'm looking for help on identifying the age and the validity of my great grandfather's shotgun. It is a double barrel percussion type. On one side only it says Manton and I know Manton is an old name in shotguns but that there are also fakes. There are no serial numbers anywhere or any other writing that I can find. With the barrels removed the marks underneath are a crown with a scroll, 11, WS, crown with crossed lances and a v, 11, crown with crossed lances and BPC. I've tried to take some pictures but that is proving to be difficult. Any help I can get I'd appreciate.

Images...would really help...including close-ups of the various Proof Marks and so on.

Might be English...might be Belgian...might be Belgian parts assembled in England...etc...

Hi southtexan!

Welcome to High Road.:)

I had a similar post, last entry was May 30,2010, on this same venue, perhaps if you reveiw it some of your questions will be answered.

By the way, Oyeboton who first answered your post, along with others was very encouraging in my research.
Good luck in your search.

Digger.

Have you fired yours yet Digger Odell?

I been so darned busy I have not fired mine yet!!

Eeeeeesh...

Well, in fact, I do not have all the stuff needed, yet, either...I keep forgetting to send of for Wads.

Hi Oyeboten!

No, I passed it on to my daughter. She & her husband go to the range very often but I don't know if she has fired it yet.

At least your still making smoke with your revolvers.:D

Digger.

Well that was sure nice of you!

Have them do a 'Range Report' here one of these days once they have shot it some.

You know, I was headed out to the Range there with the Cap & Ball Revolvers, and with some old Metallic Cartridge ones, and it was really swell.

Got busy then, still busy, and now it is HOT here...I bet it is easily 118 or 122 out where the Range is...so, I have thought about it, the Spirit was willing...but the flesh did not do the follow through part...Lol...

Darn...

She was pleased as punch, as it belonged to one of her favorite great uncles & its special to her. She is unsure if she wants to fire it, but I think she will after she fondles it for awhile, she did promise a range report when she does.

Glad you have been able to put Metro behind you & you can use your new smith with a clear mind.

As always have fun.
Digger.

Thanks!

Yup...been carrying the Snubulator off and on...hate to get it sweaty though, and hard not to with this heat.

They used to have night time Trap and Skeet in the Summers here, at a special Range just for that.

I wonder if they'd allow a Muzzle Loader?

I will call them and see.

Nights are nice usually...nice enough anyway...

That'd be fun...always liked Trap...the old Percussion Shotgun would be really interesting to do Trap or Skeet with.
