Help inform the misinformed...

This may or may not be the best idea, but what the heck... let me take a stab at winning some hearts and minds.

I'm a University of Florida alumnus and fan, and follow sports boards especially during football season, almost as much as I come here. One board I frequent has a politics section, which I almost always avoid.

In the wake of the IL campus shooting yesterday, predictably there are clarion calls from "those people" calling for more gun bans etc. Here's where you come in, if you feel like it. I'm asking for some backup, if you feel up to it, please register on that board and help me out. Please keep it High Road; we'll never convince the hardcore antis over there calling for $10/round ammo taxes and gun bans, but by keeping cool and making our points, I think we have a chance to sway people in the middle.

The thread is called "Another Campus Shooting", registration is free like it is here. What do you say? I post under pretty much the same screen name over there. Even if you don't register, you can critique the points I've tried to make.

Also, a pretty popular national political site I frequent often is running a poll entitled "Should professors and students be allowed to carry guns on university campuses?"

I will also try and join your site as well, that's a great idea. I'll try and get on there this evening when I have some time. My sister is a Gator, and I took some high-school football training there under Steve Spurrier.

Why don't people realize these gun-free zones are killing zones? As a CCW holder, it burns me to see these preventable shootings go so far.

My reply to the poll:

"1. These sorts of killings will only continue and indeed continue [meant to say increase] as long as those who perpetrate them are rewarded in the coin they so desparately crave, attention. They're treated like rock stars and lavished with attention that no hero of the wars in Afghanistan or Iraq could even dream of. These monsters may be insane, but they're not stupid. They want attention and the media teaches them that the way to get it is to murder a lot of people. It's like using bloody fish guts as shark repellent. It makes you wonder at the motivations of the media.

2. Strangely, these freaks almost NEVER attack: police stations, Ranger Battalions, gunshows. Gosh, I wonder why? Gee, could it be because there's not much "glory" in getting shot to pieces before you get to murder anybody? Whatever creating a ready pool of helpless victims does, it most certainly does NOT deter mass murderers. Again, like sharks to chum, it ATTRACTS and ENCOURAGES them.

Anybody who prefers the CERTAINTY of being shot execution style to the remote POSSIBILITY of being wounded in a "crossfire" should potential victims actually be allowed to defend themselves, is to put it bluntly, STUPID. Anyone who would force that choice on OTHERS is EVIL."

I just voted on targatop's issue, I think it is really sad that currently 50% say Yes, Allow Guns on Campus, 46% say NO and 4% don't know?
I don't understand the don't know, what is up there, people don't know if they would like to have a choice about defending themselves?

Thanks for voting on this, I can't believe how even it is! You'd think in light of recent events, people would be stumbling over themselves to help our campuses become less of a victim zone.

Why is it that no one goes down to the local crack alley / gang hangout and mow down the cess pool that exists there?

I posted there a few hours ago, and when I went back to see if there were any replies, it seems as if my post has been deleted and I have been banned for "improper registration." Is there some special thing you must do to register over there so it is "proper"?

Not that I know of. I didn't even think you needed to register to post. You said you got an improper registration error? I'll try and forward this to the admins. I post there quite often.
