First trip to the range with my LC9.

VERY accurate

NO problems with the trigger

HAPPY with the overall package

BUT.....

I accidentally released the mag twice while cycling through the first five mag's of ammo.

I shoot a 1911 most of the time, so my grip method is "pre-learned".

The compact grip on the LC9 puts my middle finger close to the mag release.

Anyone have any suggestions to minimize the chance I accidentally release a mag?

Thanks

Grind downthe mag release maybe. That 's been done on KelTec for years. You won't be speed loading this pistol if for carry. I rather have 1 mag that works that one I keep popping out.

(might have my gunsmith fit a more firm mag release spring)

Not trying to start a Forum argument, but some have suggested their fingers are no where near the mag release when they hold the LC9.

I shoot a 1911, so below are pictures of my "muscle memory" hold.

During recoil and/or rapid fire it sure looks like one's fingers could very well contact the mag release.

It doesn't seem possible to make small hold adjustments in a gunfight.

And, if I have to change my pre-learned grip to shoot the LC9, well, that ain't gonna work for me.

What am I missing here?

Maybe the pinkie extension will allow your fingers to grip a tiny bit lower... or at least not too tightly at the top near the mag realease.

I can totally see how hitting the mag release is possible.

Looks to me like fitting all your fingers on the grip might be part of it?

When I shoot my LC9 I leave my pinky under the magazine and grip with just two fingers. Sounds weird but works for me.

I'm choking down on the pinkie extension for all I'm worth.
Sorry... I didn't know yours had the extension. I just bought a used LC9 (not here yet) and I hope I don't have the same issue. I've handled one a couple times and didn't notice it but...

IMHO, subcompacts handle better with mag extensions, if available, and will probably decrease the possibility of accidentally pressing the mag release. Of course, this means losing some concealability and it probably can't be pocket carried but that's a good trade (for me). But... extended mags aren't yet available for the LC9.
