Help - Load Damaged My Bolt

Given the flattened CCI primers at 52.2gr., it doesn't seem surprising that an additional 2.4+gr. of powder would pierce primers, regardless of brand.

The results shared by the OP also reinforces my belief that the concept of "book velocity means you are at book pressure" for a given cartridge and powder is unreliable (unless the chronograph used was reading a few hundred fps low or there is something seriously wrong with the rifle).

Perhaps double check that the bullets are indeed .277" and 130gr., (and not 7mm (.284")).

Bullets where measured and also sorted by weight initially, can confirm they are 130 gr 0.277" (My reloading past is for ELR shooting, so I am very meticulous about consistency, grouping bullet weights, brass weights, etc)

Seating depth and pressure do not have a linear relationship.

Conditions exist where seating the bullet deeper can increase pressures just the same as running it further out. Kind of the point in “maximum” and “minimum” depths. Not that that’s the limit of where you can put it but the limit they suggest you do, using their data.

OK, then I think investigating seat depth will be my next step. I know that she liked some reloads I made for my other 270 which I used to sight her in (see pictures below), so I think I will mimic that seating depth with a min charge and see what happens. I will do a 5 shot group that mimic the length to the Ogive (so bullet jump is same as my other rounds) as well as a 5 shot group that mimics the OAL and see what happens.

This was some plinking reloads I had previously made for my Rem 700 that I just ran through her when I was getting the scope sighted onto paper (these are not hunting rounds, hence why I am developing hunting rounds for her now).

While you’re in the measuring mood, check the OD on some of your Winchester LRP cups and compare them to other brands. That might be an eye opener and motivation enough to never use them. I know it was for me.

After doing a lot of "internet investigating" it is pretty obvious this batch of Win primers is one of the "bad" lot that they had a lot of these pinholes in. Apparently it was when they moved factories years ago, they had some Quality issues. I am definitely scrapping this box of primers and will contact Win. Good idea though, I will measure some and see the variation. It will be interesting to compare their variation to my CCIs.

Update: I have confirmed that my Primers are from a known lot of bad WLR primers (Lot DHL765Q). Winchester will buy them back from me and supposedly will pay to repair my bolt, (waiting on confirmation on that once i get quotes). Unfortunately, I have several hundred loaded rounds using these primers in my safe and no new primers to replace them with. This shortage sucks.
