Hey everyone I am looking at purchasing a 20 gauge o/u for dove and quail hunting. I ordered a Franchi Veloce DU but I am not impressed...it felt "cheap" to me and the detailing looked boiler plate needless to say it is going back. Looking to spend around 1000, new or in excellent shape. I am not looking for anything fancy and like the look of the stainless finish on receiver. I am thinking 26" barrels with choke tubes. With the searches I have done I have located the following:

Ruger Red Label
Beretta 686 Special Model "S"
Beretta Whitewing
Beretta Silver Pigeon

If I have left any options out please let me know and help me decide on what gun is best for the money.

Thanks!

Citori.

My advise is to try before you buy for GUN FIT to you - better if you shoot it at flying targets to really know how the gun fits.

Then with selections better whittled down to those that fit, pick one.
Nothing wrong with a good used one either.

Have gun fitted to you by someone that knows how to do so.

BA/UU/R

FWIW I cheated, I used a Citori 3 bbl set and had not only 20ga, but the 28ga and .410.

It ain't cheatin' if it works - called ingenuity. :D

Everyone i know with a Beretta is supremely happy.
I don't actually own one (yet!), but I must admit i"m very impressed.
I don't think you could go wrong with any of those. I do believe that the Beretta's or the Brownings would be "nicer' than the Ruger.
The ruger however you could probably hammer nails with.

YES for 20 gauge O/U! My choice for last ~25 years has been the Browning Citori. Started with Field Grade gun w/fixed chokes and later replaced it with a Grade VI w/removeable chokes about 15 years ago. No problems with either. Everyone who handles my Citori thinks it is a new gun because it is still tight. Second choice would be Beretta and distant third choice would be Ruger.

Good shooting and be safe.

Well, I'll post my opinion here also and as you know everyone has one. I love my Red Label. I think its one heck of a shotgun! :) I don't know about the Berettas, I"ve never shot one but I do shoot sporting clays with some guys that have Brownings. Seems like they are always needing to mess with their guns, misfires, replacing firing pins etc. All I ever do is clean mine :D

Red Label,
That has not been my experience. No problems in ~25 years of shooting Citori's. Continued good luck with your Red Label.

Good shooting and be safe.

I've had the Beretta Whitewing 20 gauge with 26" barrels for about 3-4 years. Good solid gun, light, slim and fast. I've carried it many miles and I really appreciate the light weight.
