I have a few dollars to buy a new defensive rifle. This will be my only rifle for while. I am looking at 4 guns right now....
1. VEPR II AK-47, folding stock, 7.62x39mm- these look like very fun rifles, I hear they are very accurate and heavy, but extremely reliable. I do NOT want another ghetto AK like my SAR-1, the finish was horrible on that. I think the price on these is somewhere between $550-600, and magazines and ammo are dirt cheap. I want a folding stock rifle to take to hotels with me, lugging the 20" remington 870 is getting old.
2. Bushmaster AR-15, 16"bbl, 5.56mm- ARs are fun to shoot, and extremely light. Magazines/ammo are everywhere. I have never shot a bushmaster that did not jam frequently (I've shot 3, all unreliable) and they were almost as accurate as my SAR-1. Is that normal for a bushy? I can get one of these for somewhere between $700-800
3. Ruger Mini-14 5.56mm- I had one a few years ago, it never jammed. Great gun, and now you can get factory 20 rounders for it. I can get one of these for around $550. I'd get one of these over a bushmaster, just because I like the action on the mini more. I dropped mine in a muddy riverbank once, cleared the barrel, shot it, and watched the mud sling off of the action as it went!
4. Marlin .357magnum 1894C. I'd love a pistol caliber carbine to go with all my K-frames. I'd spend a few more dollars and put a scout mount and GR sights on it. The project would probably cost around $700-800, depending on what kind of optics I put on it.
Which of the 4 would you all get?
