Gents,

Has the itch to replace a (relative) cheapie scope that I had on my AR-10. Leaning towards either a Luepold or Nightforce in the 6x20X50 range. Been looking at a couple of used ones.

My question is, what should I be willing to pay for a used scope? 20%-25% off retail is what people seem to be asking. Some of the retailers sell used Nightforce for a $100 off retail.

That is not much of a discount considering that some of the scopes have seen a far bit of field service (nicks, scrapes and ring marks) and some folks even are asking full retail price :what:

So is it worth taking the chance to take a $200 or so off a $800-$1100 scope and possible get stuck with a (ugly) lemon? Yes they are covered by lifetime warrenties, but who needs the hassle. Now if it were half off... But some get so upset when you low ball them.

How many have successfully bought used scopes off board ads and what sort of a discount were you able to negiotiate?

dude...don't know where you're at or where you're shopping, but you can do a lot better on the internet if you are indeed looking at retail prices

first, check places like SWFA, Midway, Natchez. Those are (somewhat) discounted

Check your local dealers, though it may be hard to find what you want used. My local dealer will gladly pull scopes off rifles in stock as he can most always get more by breaking up the package. I bought a Leo VX-III 6.5x20x40 take-off for $480.

Best bet may be e-bay.
