I am looking at XDM.45, Glock21 OR M&P VTAC

Which one and why. the purpose will be HD, CCW and Range fun.

I have:
1911 A1 RIA
PT111 MIL PRO (9mm)
S&W SD40

And currently carry all three (Not at the same time).

Anything else I want to look at? Only requirements are Night sights must be widely available or come factory installed. It also must have decent support from holster makers. Would perfer .45 (only if over 10 rounds) but am open to 9mm suggestions (except for glock 9mm no interest in those).

ETA my buddy has a XDservice 9mm to hit the bullseye you have to aim at 6 oclock are all XD pistol sights this way?

It looks like the VTAC only comes in 40 if that means anything.

Having owned an XD and G21sf, consider the M&P 45 with an Apex trigger kit. I couldn't warm uo to the Glock with it's mushy trigger, goofy grip angle and absurdly wide slide profile.

The vatc is also available in 9mm which is the one I am looking at.

I looked at the M&P.45 but if other companies can fit 12or 13 in the same size frame why is it only 10?

I have the XD45 Compact, and love it. It's the best natural pointer of all 3 for me.

And yes, all Springfield pistols are sighted in for 6:00 hold.

IIRC, my night sights shoot POA on my XD, but it's been a while since I shot it. If not, nothing a file can't fix, but that would be tricky on night sights, you don't want to cut into the tritium capsule or weaken the case. Should say on the catalog. They always make adjustable sighting systems as well.

If POA is going to be an issue on a carry pistol (this is a carry pistol right?) then go with something else to be sure.

That said, yes, all 3 of them. The glock is probably the oddball on the list for me because I don't like the grip angle. Just go to a gun store/shooting range and fondle some. Pick the one you like the best.

It will be a carry pistol as well as HD and Range fun. All my pistols are for the same roles.

I have handled all except the Glock 21 (handled it before but not since the gen 4) all fit okay in my hand. The reason the Glock is even on the list is because its one of few .45 handguns with a standard capacity over 10.

I have the 1911 for Low standard cap .45 so I am looking for something over 10 if it will be in .45.

I recommend the XD 45.

I like the trigger better on the XD, and the grip angle too.
And the grip doesn't feel as fat as the grip of the G21.

I spend a lot of time on a public shooting range as a Range Safety Officer. I see people shooting just about everything. I have only seen one XD/XDm jam, ever, and that was yesterday and the guy was shooting his own .45 reloads.

I personally like the slick, shiny, chromed magazines. They drop right out every time. And speaking of mags, I haven't had any trouble (yet) finding spare mags for my XDm even after Sandy Hook. Plus, they are easy to locate in the store, you just look right beside the big empty hole that used to have G-lock mags hanging there.

Takedown is a breeze too. Lock the slide back, flip the take down lever, release the slide (without pulling the trigger) and it slides right off.

There is one other you might look at in that size range and that's the HK USP. Dang accurate pistol that HK.

Good to hear. Any idea of they make sights for the XD so it will shoot POA/POI?

As for the HK I should have stated that HK is out of the question due to their attitude towards civilian sales.

Going with the M&P 9 MM range and carry kit. Gonna have my LGS order it and have them install night sights at the factory.

Thanks for all the responses guys.
