I've been looking at that page all night struggling to think of a need for one. I kind of want one in 223 and get a boyds stock for it but I just re barrelled my 223 BVSS this summer to a 308 because I didn't shoot it anymore. Don't really have any use for a 6.5 or a 22-250. Just too good of a deal to pass up though. Don't have a scope to put on it either. hrmmm

Its under (hopefully) 250 for a decent gun....dont tell me you all havent bought a gun you didnt need! What I need is a lock on my piggie bank....its some kind of a plot to get all my money. It is working darn well.

Problem is I'm trying to save up for some rather expensive parts for my race car. I couldn't resist and put in an order for a 223. I got a Marlin 45-70 for a screaming deal a month ago with a main in rebate as well, wasn't planning on buying that either but very glad I went for it. I decided I'm going to sell my AR15 and should come out ahead on the deal. I've come to find I'm just not an AR guy. Maybe I can get a few bucks for the stock on ebay as well. I'll put it in a pepper laminate boyds thumbhole.

Too many threads lately about "do I need it" and "and is it worth it" :D

Race cars. I understand that. A guys got to support all his habits, and that's an expensive one.

I don't know if they still make it or not, but my preference for a relatively compact, bolt-action rifle, chambered in .308 Winchester, has always been the Ruger Model M77RSIMKII International model with the full length "Mannlicher" style stock. Mine has proven to be plenty accurate and very handy when hunting in the typical Michigan cedar swamps that I look to take a whitetail from. I have a compact Leupold VariX II, 1x4x mounted on mine.

So, socal, have you made a decision? Just scanned back through the thread. With an 800 yard outside limit, I'd definitely give the nod to the Bergara in 6.5 CM, if you haven't already ordered a Savage.

26" is a good long range barrel (I have one- 270 win Douglas I built in 1970s on a 1903-A3), but a little long for general hunting. 24" is probably your best of both worlds. 22" hunting only out to 400 yards. 18-20" woods out to 200 yards. Jmho
No I don't shoot 308
Yes I do shoot 30-06 (I'm old school) and 300 HH (even older school) and 38 WCF (even older school) ha ha
Yes I hunt 3 months every year and target shoot every week. Although now mostly with pistols because of my failing eyes.
