So I've been seriously looking at semi-auto shotguns for the last couple months. I had wanted to spend less that $500 bucks on one, however the one that was the hands down best every time I looked at it was the Winchester Super-X3. It shouldered great, looked awesome with it's walnut stock, and wasn't too heavy in the front. It's price tag is pretty much double what I wanted to spend, however I was pretty content to save up for it and get it sometime in the spring, hopefully before Spring Gobbler.

Anyways, I was in a gun shop yesterday, and I found a very slightly used Beretta AL390 for $399. It fit right well when I pulled it up to my shoulder, was nice and light, and, well is a Beretta. I'm a big fan of their pistols and have several. The only downside that I can see to it is the synthetic stock. I've looked online, and it appears that I can purchase a walnut stock and fore end for it and replace them myself, but that looks like it'll cost about $200 bucks.

So my question is, does anyone know anything about reliability of the Super X3 versus the 390? Are there any reasons why I should wait and go with the Winchester? It's not outside the realm of possibility that I would get the Beretta now and still get a Super X3 later either, but I'm torn as to whether or not the Beretta is worth it.

Thanks!

I have 2 390's. Bought one new with synthetic furniture, and bought the other used with walnut furniture. Both are completely reliable.

I think the SX3 is a great shotgun. A friend has one and he loves it, but I can tell you from personal experience you won't regret getting a 390. I paid $450.00 for the used one I bought and consider it a bargain.
