Help me find a .50 ca rifle.

I'm interested in getting one before some dope bans them. Can anyone suggest a few brands i should check out?

Price wise I'm interested in ones in the $1500 range +- 500.

I'd prefer one that takes a magazine but it doesn't have to.

If the .50 owners would like to chime in on their rifles that would be nice too.

Thanks

Hmmm,,,,
$2,000 may, or may not get you in the door of the place you're trying to get into.

If it does, it will be with a entry level single shot.

I'm sure others will point you down other paths as well,
but I'd recomend you check out the State Arms company, and Serbu.

Thier weapons aren't under $2,000, but they are a good value for what you get.
I know, because I own one of each, and really, really like them both for slightly different reasons.

.

I was just in Cabals yesterday and they had .50 in bolt action for $2,800.

Take your pick, depending on your personal taste. Does it need to be mag fed? Side-feeding, or bottom? If you have an AR lower, you could get an upper for about $1800, add in a stock and you've got a complete rifle for under $2k. Safety Harbor's in particular gives you a 5-round bolt-action repeater for about that price. Browse through this page:

You might have to reconsider the magazine feed, at your price range there are quite a few nice single shots out there. Don't forget you are gonna need some good quality glass.

I have fired a Watson conversion for function (No sights). The rate of fire is comparable to a muzzle loading cannon.

If you've not actually handled one, you have to break open the AR (VERY CAREFULLY!!! Let that 20+ LB barrel drop and you'll break the lower receiver!), unscrew the breechblock, slide a cartridge into the shellholder on the front of the breechblock, and then carefully thread that breechblock/cartridge assembly back into battery, taking care to line up the relief at the bottom of the breechblock for the hammer to pass thru, and then close and lock the upper and lower receivers. I only put a half-dozen or so rounds thru the gun, so it may be that some proficiency could be developed, but it still seemed very awkward.

Advantages? It's about as cheap an entry as you'll find, and if you have an AR, then you can mail-order the upper assembly.

Additional note: I see that they also sell other types of .50's. My remarks are about the .50BMG Upper.

Armalite AR50

You might want to look at this one.

Features:
1. Full lenght ejection chamber
2. Feeds from the chamber. No need to pull the bolt out to load.
3. Adjustable stock(comb)
4. Great muzzlebrake, shoots like a 12ga 3" slug
5. Easy take down for cleaning.
6. Remington 700 style trigger.
7. 34lbs without scope
8. Free floated barrel
9. Positive safety
10. Accurate!!!!

Just some of the features that I like...

My bro bought an Armalite AR-50 and I have to second it as a recommendation. At around $2600, it is a little beyond your price range, and will be more so if you factor in the bipod and drag bag, but it is a quality rifle from a respected company.

The muzzle brake is wonderfully effective. Felt recoil is always subjective, but the AR-50 feels a helluva lot less brutal to me than a 3" Mag slug--more like a .30-30 or even an SKS to me. The blast is impressive if you are beside the shooter, but the blast shield on the muzzle brake actually makes the shooter position the most comfortable. There is less blast and almost no recoil. The rifle iis heavy, but very stable, and very accurate.

I also recommend you don't skimp on optics. If you want to reach the potential of the cartridge and the rifle, you need high quality optics. My bro spent $1600 on a Nightforce and never looked back. If I were to get a .50, it would be a setup pretty much identical to his.

If you shop around you can find a single shot for about 2K. Just be sure it's what you're looking for and stay away from Hesse/Vulcan.

The next thing you'll want is to save your money for some quality glass.
