I need to know what the best belt is for CCWing…

I've got a VMII and no good belt to carry it with. I stupidly went out and bought a belt from the Gap that was the correct length, but it was terribly inadequate for carrying the VMII and gun. So…What's good?

I've been looking at a Milt Sparks belt, and at Rafter's gun leather, but I was looking for some opinions before I went out and bought another belt that I hated.

I'm looking for something that'll carry the load, but won't be so damn thick that it'll look funny when carrying IWB.

I also like how the milt sparks belts have a slight curve to them when they are made. Not sure if any other belts have that. If not, I may just go with the Milt Sparks belt.

Here's their site for reference:

Here's my holster and gun:

I use a surplus $3.99 belt from the local camping store, but I also use an Uncle Mike's IWB neoprene that doens't need a whole lot of belt support... more just squeeze up against you to hold 'er in.

Sean,

Try to find a 1.5" Doc Martens belt. I use mine for CCW all the time and carry extra mag, g2 flashlight, phone, knife and IWB holster.

Paid about $20 for it. Very strong and comfortable. Mine's black. Don't know if they have other colors.

I found a good wide stiff belt at TJ Max :what:

I wasn't looking for a carry belt, just killin time while the wife shoped and I ran across it.

The moral of this story is-look around you never know what you'll find.

BTW the belt was only eight bucks:D

90% + of the belts on the market are cut straight. As mentioned, the belts by Milt Sparks are cut on the curve/contour. Then when you put the belt on, it actually flairs out slightly to follow the curve of the hip. It makes it more comfortable because the belt is not actually digging into your hips as much when you tighten it. You'll find contour gun belts done by the holster makers who make the western style gun belts/rigs, too, because of carrying the heavy weight of most revolvers. Contour belts most assuredly give you more comfort. So if you're going to be carrying that .45 for long periods of time, I'd recommend the contour belt.

Thanks for the recommendations. I contacted lightning arms, and will likely order from them if they've got what I need in stock. I got my VMII from them a few months ago.

Thanks-

Shawn

I use a Mitch Rosen. At $95 it's a bit more than the Milt Sparks but ends up the same if you are ordering from Lightning Arms. When I ordered mine last year it only took 3 weeks, you'd have to call and see what there lead times are now. This might be an option for you if LA doesn't have in stock what you need. I would bet these two belts are pretty much equal quality. The Rosen is also cut on a contour and they have a less expensive model that is cut straight.

Almost forgot to mention I'm using this belt with a VM-II as well, great combination.

Kramer belts are cut on the curve and of a simliar quality/price to Sparks. Dillon sells thick straight belts for about $45.

I ordered the Milt Sparks from Lightning arms... happened to have mine in stock so I jumped on it.

Thanks for the help guys...

Ringer, that looks like a great rig you've got.

If your on a budget, the wilderness instructor belts are awesome. I have a instructor and a ring, and they meet 90% of my needs. Unfortunatly, they are not the prettiest of belts, and when I ahve to tuck in my shirt, they stick out. Im looking at a rafter s sharkskin belt, and will probally place a order next week. About 80 dollars with shipping, which i think is more than reasonable for something so gorgeous and yet functional.

Just received a new Rafter S leather belt a few days ago. Looks great, tough, top-notch quality, and a reasonable price. Oh, and the people at Rafter S are really friendly. My wife likes my new belt so much she's going to get one too.

Wal-Mart $15 Levi's brown belt. 1.5". 7 Years so far on this belt, works great for everything. made in guatemala it says.

the nice curve thing appears pretty quick.. week or two. to speed the process up: have the belt in your bathroom while you shower then wear it a bit. the steam will loosen it up a bit to break it in faster. this is porbably really horrible advice, but it does work. might stretch out a bit too, though.

you can always get a leather worker to cut one for you. freind had that done... very nice job.

I am getting a belt from HBEleatherworks along with a IWB holster for my P-01. For the pair is going to run me $130. I will let you guys know what they are like.
