I have a Tikka T3X Super Varmint in .223. I'm looking for a muzzle brake, but unfortunately, Tikka's threads are 5/8x24. I can find plenty of larger caliber ones with that threading, but not .223. And I've spent a fair amount of time looking.

Any pointers on where to find one would be appreciated.

I've got a Hellfire and it works well.

Depending on your noise tolerance, you might want to take a look at the Hypertap:

I've got one on my 3Gun rig. Works great, but is LOUD.

The Area419 Hellfire arrangement is handy, as it decouples (largely) the relationship between thread tenon diameter and bore diameter.

But, it really doesn’t hurt to have a slightly oversized 6mm or 6.5mm brake on a 223. So if you don’t like the Hellfire, then other options will suit just fine. I got my first ACE brake of my own over the winter and absolutely love it. Great muzzle control and recoil reduction without so much concussion at the line. APA Lil Bastard brakes and A419 Hellfires are great, but they are PUNISHING brakes to shoot all day.

I use 5/8-24 on most of my 223’s and 20’s now. Less trumpeting in time, but still highly efficient recoil reduction and tracking control.

Here's just one of many designs Precision Firearms has available. This one is a .223 specific bore and is available in several thread sizes, including 5/8x24.

Probably several others available, search the list.

Looks like it is not made in 5/8x24. Thanks though.

They do have one (PF LMD) in 5/8x24 for a 224 Valkyrie. That should work.

I've never fired a bolt action .223. Is there really enough recoil for it to even be a consideration?

When we want to stabilize out muzzle on target, even in compromised positions, yes, there is enough recoil to be a consideration. Tough guys need not thump their chests…

This one has been on sale for a while (discontinued?). I bought the 7.62 a few months ago but haven't built the AR yet. It is 5/8x24, don't know the thread for the 5.56.
It's OK to use the 308(7.62) for the 223.

Edit: the 5.56 is 1/2x28

Typically, when folks talk about stabilizing the muzzle on target, they're talking about multiple shots. I'm not following how a brake would help stabilize the muzzle on a bolt action. You've got to work the bolt and then re-stabilize the muzzle anyway. Has nothing to do with being a "tough guy".
