Hi all and I’m needing some help finding ranges in Florida centered about Delray Beach—between West Palm Beach and Ft Lauderdale. My games are varied—SASS, IDPA, Bullseye, plates & pins, 3-gun, rifle out to 1000 yards—though my 2 favorites (K-31 & M96) are good fun even at 200 yards. I am not much given to trap and skeet anymore; my shoulder says so.

I have been all over Google and made some phone calls to Markham Park and Delray Shooting Center.
I’m not feeling much love yet and am hoping that some here can help me with finding fun there. Perhaps clubs that are ‘unincorporated’ or off the grid due to small size or semi-private (by invitation only).

Twenty odd years as an instructor (Basic Pistol through advance carry, Black Powder, Rifle and re-loading) in Connecticut does not seem to translate to knowledge about Southern FL. What to sell here vs. what to bring—I need help to know what’s available there range wise first.

NRA-ILA lets me know how to get them there—where I can go shooting and thus what to bring is what I hope to find out here.

Thank You all in advance. CC

Don't know how it is in Ct., but don't expect to have a very good choice down here. West Palm has a range out west on SR 80 that should cover most of your needs. I've lived in this area for 25 yrs., and I make a point of driving an hour to Shooting Sports in Okeechobee, Fla., or an hour and half north to the state range at Sebastian. Just wait--you'll see!! Another thing--if you think you have some "un-necessary" restrictions on fire arms in Ct. wait until you experience the crap that Palm Beach County has in store for you--just saying.:cuss:

Markham Park and Pops Gun range are the only two outdoor ranges that I've heard off. There's IPSC and IDPA clubs that meet at Markham Park. The range itself is very strict with ROs between every 2-3 shooters. Pops Gun range is just Pop and a lot of land.

Palm Beach County does not have the authority to impose its own gun restrictions. State law reserves that power for the state Legislature, and the few attempts they have made at circumventing the state law have met with failure.

Idea

I just checked, and the url www.rangefinder.com is still open.

This is a shining opportunity for some of our more organized and tech savvy members to create a partner, or sister website.

I'm thinking something open forum style by region, or even a zipcode search feature, with a brief description of each range and is capabilities or significant events. As it develops, it could garner support from the ranges themselves, or just run off donations.

Another option, to probe for interest in such a tool, would be to incorporate it as a sub feature of THR.

Any takers?

Markham Park

The trick to Markham Park is joining a club that rents the LEO range off to the side. The main range is terrible, unless of course you like the range officer inspecting your gun every time you set it down to look through your spotting scope.

The LEO range is rented by a different club every weekend- Cowboy action, IPSIC, etc. I belong to one of the tactical firearms clubs that meets there one day a month we hire one of the local high-quality LEO instructors to come over for the day. If you want more information PM me.
