German markings of P181 XVw1 21 40.
I really want to know how heavy of a bullet and the velocity.
I did a little research and it appears to be armor piercing but I get conflicting info as far as the weight and fps. It has kind of a green casing, the red ring around the primer, Condition looks brand new.
I paid 70 for 330 rounds so it is a killer deal. Hope it still goes pop. A magnet sticks big time to the bullet so I guess it isn't the tungsten core stuff.
This is what I drummed up. Any info would be appreciated.
red around primer = armor piercing
AP has a bullet weight in the 178-180gr range
The ammo used was indeed probably the 7.92x57 S.m.K.H. which was adopted in August 1939. This was loaded to high-velocity v-Munition pressures, with a 194 grain (12.6g) tungsten-cored bullet being fired at around 2,800 fps (850 m/s). Penetration is given as up to 18mm at short range.
