In 1973 my dad bought a colt detective special at a gun shop in NYC. He had recently gotten his permit to carry for business and a cop friend of his recommended the firearm.

In 1984 he turned in the firearm because he was afraid of my curiosity for the gun, I was 3 years old.

Last year I lost my dad and now want to find his revolver. I may well have been destroyed by the nypd but I have one glimmer of hope. the officer who took the gun commented that the gun es nice and he wanted to buy it for himself.

I've called the property clerk's desk at the nypd, but they were no help. The serial number was or is F03892.

Any help would be great, and yes I realize there is little that can be done, but I thought I'd give t a shot, no pun intended.

If your father turned it in to the police department it was not destroyed, it became the personal property of which ever police officer saw it first. It was never entered on any department records. Good Luck on your quest,

Bottom line is, finding it ain't gonna happen.

If the gun still exists, whoever has it now is retired on a pension, and not gonna confess.

If you locate that revolver again, you ought to buy a lottery ticket. It'll be harder than finding a needle in a haystack...
