STI is a great choice, but not on the menu it seems. I have not shot the Ruger, but have shot a Sig and was duly impressed.

What are you looking for in a 1911? Are you looking for specific goodies? Not want anything? Barrel length preference?

just looking for a well made pistol. as far as goodies i don't know this will be
my first 1911. Barrel length 5" something that i can pass-down to son
and grand kids

The only 1911 I have is a Ruger. so I can't compare but I've shot thousands of rounds of mixed ammunition without any issues. More accurate than I am............ and very well made right here in Arizona.

How much can you spend? If you're willing to spend a little over $1,000, you can look at a Dan Wesson Heritage. Dan Wessons are top of the line for production 1911s, and the Heritage will be of much higher quality than any Sig 1911.

I'm not a fan of Sig 1911s at all, to be honest. Aside from being butt-ugly (my opinion), they've been progressively stuffed with greater quantities of low-quality internals over the last several years, with Exeter/Newington stooping to sourcing low-end MIM from the likes of Indo-MIM. It's probably the pistol model that best reflects the company's sad direction under Ron Cohen and his Kimber playbook.

If you're going to go ugly, at least spend a little more for something much higher in quality than a Sig 1911 in the STI Trojan.

Between the two you're looking at, I'd go with the Ruger and have a little money left over. Just not impressed with Sig 1911s.

If you can spend $1000, as someone else posted, Dan Wesson, period.

Dan Wesson Heritage.
Do it. Doooo it!

You can pass this one down and the family will be proud of it. Only a little more than your suggested budget.

I'll never spend the money for a "custom" 1911, but I did step up to a DW. I was completely satisfied that the quality justified the small premium over the cost of a Ruger or anything else at that price point.

Don't get me wrong--Ruger 1911s are just fine-- just not up to a DW.
Good luck with your choice!

I have a few of those all-black Night Watchman Rugers on order. They'll be here on Monday so I can let you see some better photos. Best thing about Ruger is there is no firing pin block like a Series 80 or Schwartz. And they are all stainless. I don't think the XO is stainless.

No trigger time with either the Ruger or SIG versions but if I were looking for a 1911 I would be inclined to check out Colts as well. Bud's Gun Shop has three Government Models which are priced under $1000 and have similar features as the Ruger and SIG guns. They have:
Model 01980XSE- $888
Model 08011XSE- $922
Model 01991CCG- $975

I've read good things about the 1911's both companies are putting out, and think either is a good choice.

The one negative I've heard about a Sig was that it had s tight chamber and didn't feed reliably. That's one instance though.

Perhaps something else to consider is the slide profile. The Sig is cut to look like traditional Sig pistols. The Ruger looks more like a traditional 1911.

I have a Sig 1911. The look does not bother me. I only have a couple of boxes through it, but like it a lot so far.

I wouldn't mind owning the Ruger either, but haven't shot one.

1911

Colt would definetly be my choice, and i would pick the XSE series. Plus right now Colt is offering $100.00 rebate, so you can figure that with Bud's prices above. You will never get another chance at those guns at that price. Hands down, a no brainer

This is a worthwhile point. However, while looks are one thing, finding holsters to fit the SIG slide profile is another thing.
